I found an old post Sam from you know where about SD tuning our cars that doesn't sound good. Does anyone know a 370Z that is actually SD tuned? I was at the DR office so when I found it so I took a pic.

This is from an online mag called "Super Street Network" in April 2012 about the 370Z Stillen Supercharger:

Stillen VQ37 Supercharger System - Import Tuner Magazine

"The air inlet was engineered using a Y-pipe–designed cast-aluminum intake tube that relocates the MAF sensors, retaining a “draw through” configuration. The MAF sensors are located in front of the forced-induction device to get an accurate reading of air volume. Stillen chose this route simply because this is what Nissan recommends, and over the years, have learned that the MAF sensor that Nissan uses is not designed to be “blown through”, or post forced induction. Two examples would be the Nissan GT-R and the 300ZX in which both cars use a draw-through MAF sensor setup."

What do you guys think about "Nissan recommends draw-through"?
It contradicts having MAF sensors on the "forced" side.

It cant be that way because the car doesn't get true AITs that way.

lj909 11-24-2015 07:11 PM

What if you use two sets of MAF's and splice the wires. One set for draw through air, one set in the hot side for AIT?

Not true - I have a bunch of codes turned off and still read IAT off my MAF.

I'm away for the holidays, but when I get back I'll PM you a list of codes I shut off to get my car to run smoothly.

JWillis72 11-24-2015 07:26 PM

I talked to the owner of the shop that made the pipes and it's going back to him on Monday to be redone. Unfortunately this probably means its going to be a lot longer wait until I get the car back.

lol ... most of the time it's not too bad :-)

Food time is always an interesting experience - Max and Gia race to see who can gulp down their supper the fastest, while Fritz and Lily nibble one piece at a time.

The hardest part though, is getting them in and out of the car [they ride in the G37]
Once in the car, they have developed an effective technique [they work in pairs] for slipping their harnesses and then it becomes a circus.

Lily also likes to stand on the center console and look out the windshield as she tap dances on the radio/nav/emergency flasher buttons.

So I never really know where I'm going, nor what music I'm about to listen to.
It's always a surprise.
And, I'm constantly making new friends as cars go around me flashing their lights and waving their finger[s] at me [as a friendly gesture of course] just to let me know that my flashers are working AOK.
It's good to know that there are concerned and helpful drivers out there on the roads.

Gia once fell asleep on my left leg on a late night/early morning trip up to Maine a few weeks ago.
She was straddling my thigh and her legs were just'a'dangling there and a' twitchin' away as she dreamt.

So peaceable ... A Kodak moment :-)

That is, until she started chasing critters in her sleep and her twitching paw hit the seat adjustment switch - moving the back of the seat forward.
I soon found my nose buried into the steering wheel trying to pull over to the side of the road with one eye straining to look up and over the dashboard .... I may have spotted a UFO during the seat position transition, but I'm not 100% sure on that one.
aaarrrrggghhh.

Wouldn't have it any other way though ...

I am straight up Speed density tuned. If you can somehow get ahold of him, John Visconti is the one who did my tuning. Back when we were all talking about this last month on this thread, I told him that a lot of people were trying to use a 3bar map sensor and he insisted it could only be done with a 4bar (no idea why). So that is what I am running. My MAFs play 0 role in how my car is tuned per John. Haven't heard form him in a couple weeks with more questions I have had but he would know what and how SD works on our cars.

JWillis72 11-24-2015 08:29 PM

Interesting, I will have the shop call him tomorrow! Thank you!

StillenZ84 11-24-2015 08:43 PM

No problem. Yeah hopefully he can help out. I think when you get SD working right, you are golden.

BOLIO 671 11-25-2015 06:25 AM

If u need a 4bar u should go with this one from Omni

OMNI 4BAR Map Sensor – Visconti Tuning

When I was speaking to Seb a few weeks back about remote tuning with EcuTek he highly recommended that I go with a GM3BAR Map sensor or switching to the Omni which is a direct bolt on replacement.

EVOHUNTER 11-25-2015 08:20 AM

Honestly bro, I would drop the SD, it seems like its going to be a nightmare.

Go with One charge pipe - maybe 4.5"-5" with the maf extenders. put a honeycomb before the mafs and call it a day. This would be the most cost and time effective route.

Remember, we know this works to some extent, my car idles better than the stillen kit, the response and drivability is a 100% better. Your shop could make that pipe in a few hours.

JWillis72 11-25-2015 09:26 AM

We are going to talk about it Monday but I agree, that it's probably the easiest way to do it.

What are MAF extenders?

The slot you slide and screw the MAF into comes in different sizes. There's a standard and an extended version. It basically moves the sensor closer to the outside of the pipe so you gain 'cheat' and gain a little more out of the sensor. My 3" intake tubes Sasha built me have the extenders and my tuner uses them all the time to gain that little extra.

lj909 11-25-2015 09:58 AM

I got tuned by Seb a couple weeks ago and he was also telling me you need a 4 bar MAP. He uses the one from the gtr. Direct bolt in

TopgunZ 11-25-2015 05:12 PM

Or just do it like I did. I did this In my garage. 7 dyno pulls later I'm idling perfect and am putting down almost 500 to the wheels.

JWillis72 11-25-2015 05:21 PM

I have two different picture of your set up also that I'm taking. One has the MAFs in the y pipe and the other has them closer to the TBs, the second one is the one you tuned correct?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

TopgunZ 11-25-2015 05:25 PM

No. I tuned it with them in the y.

JWillis72 11-25-2015 05:38 PM

Oh good, mine are set up like that in the y we have we would just need to add a straight piece and the air straightener.

JWillis72 SC'r'd Yellow Jacket is now over 100 days in the shop ...
Mines still in the shop as well ... latest hold is the gauges configuration ~ installation ...
An-n-nd waiting on some other small parts to-o-oo.

GaleForce [Jason] is custom fabricating a cubby console for me to house 2 gauges.
It'll be super nice when it's done. :D
Might even leave it in the shop over the winter - they are working on their own Intake Manifold in January...[insert drool here].
One good thing about all this is that the average yearly mileage is going down in leaps and bounds !!!
Pretty soon I'll have a low mileage car :woot::woot::woot:

JWillis72 11-25-2015 06:09 PM

Yep, today was 102 days but it's an 09 with 32k so it's already low miles. We just got out of the 90s last week so it's driving season now so it hurts she is still there but I didn't think this would be easy.

I 3D printed a custom cubby mount for my gauges and phone. I'll have to post a pic.

My car is an 09 with 16K miles..lol.. Its always in the garage. And now that I'm in Minnesota, it will see even fewer miles. But I like driving my awd cts. That DI engine has snap!

JWillis72 11-25-2015 06:15 PM

I do want to see that at some point, I love the idea.

Definitely would like to see a pic of your cubby mount ...
BTW - did your Z make it to Minnesota yet ?

TopgunZ 11-28-2015 12:50 PM

Z is in the parent's garage. I took her out the other day but it was just spin city. It was only 34 degrees out.

Who can recommend some cold weather tires that hook?

I put on the Blizzaks for the winter when it was my DD ...
I was able to drive through most of the winter on them.
They are a little noisy and squirmy under load - not a racing tire for sure.

Cold Wet Roads and the Z didn't mix well even on all seasons.

Here is my gauge holder. I built it to also hold my phone using the nite ize so I can display torque.

TopgunZ 11-28-2015 03:58 PM

Who might be interested in my supercharger or air to air setup? I need a winter project.

StillenZ84 11-29-2015 01:46 PM

If you still have it in a month Ill definitely take it off your hands. Was planning on starting the air to air journey after christmas. Would save whoever buys it time and frustration no doubt.

What kind of project are you thinking about doing?

TopgunZ 11-29-2015 09:47 PM

Something that puts my built motor to use. I can put the larger pulley on this and hit around 525whp but I'd like to go for the 600 club.

YzGyz 11-29-2015 10:49 PM

One off biggy size supercharger? ? 600hp SC! !
