Great news that the car is holding together!

Get us GOPRO video!
I wanna hear her! |
Well the morning started great but the suction cup for my phone dried out or something. It fell off the windshield soon as I stuck my phone in it, so I don't have video. The dyno sheet doesn't do it justice, the car is so much faster. My friend has a supercharged C5 that's always just ran away from me but not today, I walked away in every straight. Me on the other hand felt slow as could be. I guess that what I should expect with all the changes and 9 months away from the track. At lunch I I popped the hood and the there a long wire or hose looking thing on the engine. It ended up being one of the ribs off my serpentine belt. I decided to go find one so I had a spare at the track before I went out again but unfortunately Sebring is a small town and none of the parts stores had a belt. Without a spare belt I decided to call it a day instead of taking a chance of sending it home on a tow truck. Lesson learned, I will always carry spare belts for now on. The good news is I only have to wait two weeks to try it again, we will be back 4/10/16.

Too tight ??? BTW :excited: Glad you got your long awaited Track Day under your belt! Cap'n Morgan in celebration this time !!! |

No, it was the serpentine belt this time, it looks like the belt wasn't on one of the lower pulley right. It was still a great day, the car is a beast. There is no question in my mind that the A2A is the way to go if you don't have to meet CARB. |
:-) Good to Go-o-o-o-o-o-o-o !!!

I haven't had it in me to post in a while but on my next trip to Sebring the car overheated on me and I had to send it home on a tow truck. It's at a new shop that pulled the motor and it's a mess inside, warped head and block, bearings shot so I ordered a IPP long block. When it's back in the car Seb is SD tuning the car. The motor will not be here for two months so I will report back in August or so.

Dang bud. That's harsh.

No not at all! We thought it was a blown head gasket but when they got it open the gasket was fine. It looks like the the heads and block are so warped the oil and water went around the gasket. I got off the interstate on a highway with 4 full lanes of traffic when I noticed the temp climbing but I was stuck between to big trucks. After sitting a a long light I got it off the road as fast as I could but it was way hot. I was on my way to a wedding of a life long friend so I sent it home on a tow truck. |

Are you upgrading the Long Block from IPP? |
Yes, only arp studs and different Pistons to keep stock compression. I know for boost most guys lower the compression but my supercharge can't be spun much faster so it would just reduce power.

When the car is running again almost everything will be new so I'm praying it will be solid. If not I'm buying a C7 or the new ZL1 so I can get back to the track. The good news right now is that we were not going back to the track until October, it's just way to hot.

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that. So if it was warped block/heads, how do you prevent that? Less time on a dyno, and more time with actual air flowing through your car? Any plans to change your cooling system this time around?
The plus side is that you get to try out the IPP block! |
I guess I left out we found a leak in the csf radiator also. My wife was driving behind me and didn't see anything leaking but that might have been the cause also, we just are not sure. Right before all of this started I had a trash bag fall off a truck in front of me and I couldn't get over and hit it. It bent up my Z speed under tray, pulled a wheel liner out of the car and I had to paint the bumper, the leak was on the same side so it could have been caused by the impact. I went with the same radiator to replace it, my cooling had been great up until now. The shop thinks it looks like the center head studs stretched around the middle cylinder but who knows.

Yeah, I wouldn't think a leak in the cooling system would have done it. But boost WILL stretch headstuds. What was your final boost number once your tune was all sorted?
|
Truthfully I'm not sure but it was around 10psi. I have a combo boost/AFR gauge and had the AFR on big part. By my count the car hits redline about 25 times per lap at Sebring and we get about 8 hot laps in a session so that's about 1600 time it his redlined in a weekend. I would guess that's a lot more than most cars see.

I had a hole in my rad on my EVO 9, (didn't realize it).. I ended up warping my head, and messed up a lot of things.. The car was fine, then all of a sudden it shot up in temp, car died. had to do a full rebuild on it. bearings, heads etc..
|
That's exactly what mine did.

A few years back I managed to run over a rather large racoon that ran out in front of me and then just stopped. Couldn't do anything to avoid it...60mph...3:30 AM. Had made a special trip to get gas because of the hurricane. Waited an hour and a half on line ... Huge thump and the car actually felt like the car was driving over a log. It sheared off the nose fasteners and did some other damage as well. Managed to put the nose back on and held it in place with some twigs I scrounged in the nearby woods. Glad I had my Boy Scout knife. Got it back home drivin' slow and EZ, but had to go for a new front fascia and grill. The fender and hood got bent and the headlight also chipped in the corner. Some $$$$ later [the insurance didn't cover much of the repair] and it was good as new. Another 'Z' story for the books :wtf2: |
As stressed as the car has had me over the last you I'm actually in a lot better place this time. The money hurts but not dealing with going to the old shop every day and knowing when it's done I have a tuner that knows what they are doing helps a lot.
