Not sure how that would work on a Z. Location of the support ribs might not allow for a look like that.

Default Aero Jacket

I received a one-off vented hood from Aero Jacket, which makes use of the OEM hood and is based off the one on Jamaica@UAMotorsports car. It's pretty rough and requires a bit of work from the body shop, but I rather have this custom vented hood than a CF vented hood or anything with protruding add on vents. I'm just crossing my fingers that it'll turn out well. I'll work underneath to improve stability and aesthetics at a later time... looks pretty gross underneath haha.

Yeah looks pretty rough but the vent placement is probably the best for extracting heat right after the radiator.

So what did they do? Cut those in a stock hood?

Yea, they cut out a section underneath to clear the path to cut the exposed section of the hood. The line in the pic was partially cut to help fold the flap, which was a bit delicate. To hold them in place, they used some fiber and epoxy. The vent gap is about 1" wide, so hopefully it's enough to vent something. I'm told their drift cars have these vents as well.

The shop handling my car specializes in auto body repair and PDR, and they're not too excited about custom work like this. The tech will use an epoxy that can adhere to aluminum (possibly same as what he's using for PDR of the body panels). He will try to fill and clean the epoxy and weave section, and also deburr some sharp and rough edges. I'm told it'll take about 8 hours of labor.

In the near future I might try to go back underneath the hood to clean up the work, add grills and some reinforcement as well. If I decide to add some silver foil tape, it'll be for the vented section since I want the hood to dissipate heat - not reflect it back.

It is a lot of work, and I hope my car doesn't have to endure a freak hail and wind storm like this again... just one more year till I get a hold of a beater car haha.

I got the Seibon GTR style hood. I guess it's designed so water can't really get in unless it's being forced upward onto the hood. Even driving through rain I've never had a problem with "large" amounts of water getting in there.

Has anyone (DIY or commercial) actually analyzed the pressure and airflow situation to figure out the best location and flow direction for vents? There should be good pressure under there from the radiator outflow, it's just a question of where the best place to exhaust it is. Are the GTR-style NACA ducts intended to draw air out and forward via the airflow that likely reverses at the base of the windshield? The CarbonSignal vents (rearward flowing up the sides) could work, too, but it would just be nice to see some real pressure/flow proof.

I have access to a Fluke thermal imaging camera at work. When get my car back from the body shop I'll ask one of the guys to grab some images of my hood with and without the fan running. Temps should be in the 90s, so I'm curious to see how much hot air is flowing out of the vents. I'm just hoping for something lol.

No, we haven't and we should. Behind the radiator is probably the highest pressure area that we want to release. Above the headers is the hottest area but there isn't much airflow going up from there. Vents won't do a whole lot to cool the intake tubes, but the hot metal everyone with G3s runs robs power.
