Having some issues with my 7AT

2011 7AT with a little over 9K on the odometer. Only mods are F.I. cat back and 25row oil cooler so not concerned with either of them messing the transmission

Default Having some issues with my 7AT

Here's what is going on. Normal driving or "spirited" driving it's the same lately. Letting the car do the shifting, when upshifting it revs about 1500 higher for that split second and lurches into gear. Downshifting is a little more violent when going into gear. It'll rev high, almost like it's trying to do an SRM move and snap your neck forward. Hoping the damn thing will just seize up already cause I know the right answer is to go to the dealership but I have a bunch of jackholes for techs. I'd rather wait and have the car dragged in there with half a transmission then let them dig in their *** looking for a fix.

Just seeing if anyone out there that has blown their transmission already had similar problems.
DEpointfive0 and Naum16 like this.

I had my 7at replaced last year but it was mostly only slipping and then a leak started by the torque convertor seal.
it didnt really had any problem upshift&downshift
downshift might be harsh in the lower gear , and the worst if you try yourself to downshift to 1st gear ,, which is a very short gear and should just let the tranny do it on itself

if this isnt your problem ,,yeah going to the dealership and get a ride with a tech to explain better whats going on would be best..

Sounds like what would be called "A Flare Shift" This means a Clutch pack has excessive clearances, therfore it takes the extra half a second to finish the shift. It will get worse, you may be at the Dealership sooner than you think!

Thanks for the input. Figured this was going to require a visit to the dealership but really want to go in there with an obvious problem. I'll keep driving it till it breaks down and have it dragged in there.

I also have the 7AT with a little over 3500 miles and to be honest I don't think my transmission is gonna last very long . Ever since I purchased my car when i slow down at a stop sign or stop light, the transmission will shift from 2nd to 1st and the entire car will jerk like when you downshift a manual without syncro-rev matching. Also, sometimes in slow traffic when I accelerate the car slowly I will hear a "thump" sound coming from the transmission as it shifts from 2nd to 3rd (if i accelerate a little faster it won't do it).
I love my Z but just frustrated that I have to live with these "issues" that shouldn't be happening and don't want to take my car to the stealership. falconfixer have you ever felt any of these problems on your 7AT? Has anyone else with a 7AT felt this?

Had my tranny replaced around 8k miles. I'm currently at 55k and no issues. The bump/clunk from 2nd to 1st down or up shift at slow speeds is kinda normal (wish it wasn't).

Sounds exactly what is going on with mine. It didn't do this up until recently, last 1000 miles or so and is getting progessively more noticeable. Off the floor I was actually impressed how smooth the 7AT shifted but not so much any more.

I've had intermittent "flare" on the 4->5 upshift for months now, but I mostly only see it in low-torque situations, never when it matters. The clunky low-gear downshifts in D-mode are normal on all 7AT's. I see a couple comments above about SRM-like stuff: the 7AT does rev-match the same way as the 6MT w/ SRM on shifts. That's normal.

That's up to you. But why not take it in like someone said have a tech ride with you. If you know there is a problem, the tech will notice it also. If you don't trust your dealership then why take it to them? Go to another one.

So I had a slight hiccup with my 7AT on the drive home from work and searched for threads for answers.

I had it in manual mode which I drive in about 95% of the time. Only time I'm in full auto is the early morning drives to work since I'm still half asleep.

Anyways when coming to a stop up a hill at the stop sign it downshifted into 1st and almost stalled. From there on out it felt like I lost all gears but 4th. Shifting into any gear was a giant clunk and a massive rev drop. Got home let it sit while I ate dinner. After called my pops who knows even more about cars than I do to take a ride with me and what a surprise it was perfectly normal. Felt like new.

Did I experience a ecu glitch, transmission hiccup, temp issue, or do I have bigger problems? Any input would help.

I have no idea. Would that cause that giant clunk and rev drop?

Possibly. It would be like not depressing the clutch pedal with a manual. I had a Plymouth that would not unlock the TC sometimes and the car would buck and die at stops.

Yea mine was bucking hard even at speed when I tried shifting up and downshifts it would just like hold at a Rpm the a few seconds and bam bucked into another gear. Idk if I should drive it still that it went back to normal or just flatbed it to a shop.
