The only way to tell for sure is to tear into the transmission and do an internal inspection. You may have just burnt the fluid and changing it fixed things

You may have just burnt the fluid and changing it fixed things - maybe not. If this were a NA DD, I'd say run it and see what happens. Since you are boosted, I'd either do an internal inspection or change transmissions (might as well upgrade while you're at it).
