going on 2 years with all the recommendations from this thread for halos, building materials. I had one out for a day, it came back on and hasn't gone out for at least 6 months now. No problems with paint melting on balast either with the way I covered the upper lens with the diffuser and used professional automotive paint/process.

That's really cool. Which controller did you get for the demon eyes, btw? Also, how does the white look with the RGB LED strip?

I was thinking about getting RGBW strip and use 6 LEDs (if they fit), so I can get pure white and also different colors.

Thanks

Omg, great thread, but I just spent hours reading every single comment on all 42 pages of this thread after contemplating buying someone's already modified headlights locally. Thanks for all the detailed info guys, especially Nut_N_Much, VDC_OFF (Mikael), Meulen, and others I'm forgetting.

Now I'm gonna be tired as hell at work tomorrow....

Also Datsun, youll have to dremel sand those little tabs for our cars. Not hard but just another step to add.

Also guys, if ordering from theretrofit, order some Xchange relays switchbacks. Its not good to just run leds to the parking light because leds fail with heat and the Xchange will switch off the leds when the low beam turns on. This will save you from having to replace them soon for leds going out.
I was thinking about ordering the XSB. Is it bad to run it all the time as DRL?

Also, for the RGB demon eyes or XC halos, how does the white look? I want RGB demons, but also want white for normal DRL.

Thanks again!

thanks, here's a link to the projects parts list.

Meulen's 40th journal

I did these quite some time ago though now. So I'm not sure if those are the same parts available today or those links are any good.

Does anyone who've done this have pics of where you've wired them in to a 12v line? I'd done this to my G37, but the connection was temporarily connected directly to the battery. I had fuse taps, but ended up trading in the car prior to properly wiring them in. I will be tackling this project yet again, this time on the Z, in a few weeks and wanted to know where people generally tap into a 12v line.

thanks!

Finally decided to give this a whirl. Got my XSBs in this week, looking to get started this weeked.

Has anyone successfully wired in the switchbacks and gotten them to work properly? This thread kind of died down before the XSBs took off. I found a video of them working properly, but no instructions or details are given: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtpnEJZX72c

Also, the installation guide specifically tells you not to use glue to secure the halos. Has this always been the case, even with the older halos?

Heed the warnings on page 39 of this thread and avoid the switchbacks. Mine worked perfectly before I sealed up the headlights, but after sealing and reinstalling they no longer work. So now I'm kind of screwed.

Im currently one headlight into the process and trying to finalize how im gonna wire them up. I will prob just tape resistor inside and run its wires outside of the headlights so I can wire them up any way I want incase I change my mind.

Not a bad idea at all.

I ended up dremel-ing out the recessed area to get them to fit. More work, but it looks nice. Also, they fit so snugly that they "snapped" into place and I probably didn't even need to use glue (although I did just to be sure).
