Outer diameter. You can use a 70mm but it requires a bit of cutting, I prefer 60mm with a diffuser.

Thanks. So if using 60mm can avoid cutting the housing? And the lens still using the 2.5"?

These are the 60mm...

I had already cut for 70mm when I decided to go with the 60. If you use only the halos you may be able to get away with no cutting. Probably have to trim some with diffusers. I'm not sure though. You'll be able to tell when you mock them up.

Cool

Firstly, thanks so much to Nut_N_Much for starting this thread and to everyone else who has posted up their ideas and advice. You guys have given me the inspiration and confidence to give this a go myself.

The main problem I have now is trying to decide what I'm going to do. The combinations seem endless!

I was all set for 2 halos, filling in the dimples and spraying the lights black. But now I've seen the latest posts about the dual colour light strips I might have to think again.

I've a couple of questions - can anyone post up some daytime pics of the strips fitted and all the lights turned off? I love the effect when they are on but would like to see how they appear with the car parked up.

Also, do they affect the blink rate? In the YouTube clip Nut_N_Much posted here the indicators seemed to flash quicker than I remember.

Thanks again all

Thank you sir, I think this thread is full of guy's who were fed up paying crazy amount of money to have lights modded. These guy's have taken this thread to the next level. Tons of good people and advice here for any build anyone could imagine doing !!!

The turn signal was fitted with LED bulbs on mine for a short time. With out a load equalizer they flash quicker. I try to use new stuff and try to make it fail before I refer people to that product. Just the way I am.

Here's an idea - if you fit the dual colour strips and wire them into the turning signal then do you still need the turning signal at the top of the lights? (I guess that's down to your local laws and regulations).

Taking that further, how about making the original turning signal a parking light. That might mean you don't need to put a halo there.

Taking it further again, you could then do what you want with the original parking light (maybe a different colour LED) or just leave it blank.

Sorry - I'm getting carried away! But you see how I mean the possibilities are endless? I don't think I'm ever going to decide!

I feel stupid that this took sooooo long but I finally had a chance to get back to work on the Z. First thing I did this weekend was to hook up the controller for the demon eyes. Lots of color and flash pattern options on this. But red is my fav...

It's an epic thread! Thanks your reply.

Has anyone any more pictures of the dual colour strips fitted?

Thanks for the vid clip

Would it be possible to post some pics of the LED strip with the lights turned off too? It looks like you managed to squeeze the strip in front of the 'landing strip'.

Needless to say, I'm lining myself up for this mod and I'm trying to find out all the info I can before I break my lights open!!

Oh, and just to say... Now I've played with the dual-colour strips I can tell you they work like this:

You have 3 wires to connect - ground, +12v for white light, and +12v for the amber light.

You wire the white light wire into your ignition, or switch, whatever - so the DRLs are on.

You wire the amber light wire into your turn indicators. This is the clever bit - when your indicators flash the white light automatically turns off. All the time the amber light is on, the white light is off. Once the amber light is off, the white light then comes back on. There is a delay on this so it works OK with your flashers.

Sorry if you guys already knew this info!

Phenomenal thread, (just went through every single page and it was worth reading!!) thanks to Nut and Much, VDC Off, and contributing members for taking the time out to do this. I just pulled the trigger on the paint (touchupaint), now thinking about the Halos and LED strip, want to do gun metal housing with dual halos, red shrouds, red demon eyes, and Audi style strip. What do you think. Anyway I have an extra set of headlights I just picked up. This thread has probably saved me close to $600 if not more, for what I am going to do or what I want to do. Once again major thanks!!!

My hats off to a fellow veteran One thing, anybody know where the lenses for the turn signal conversion mod are in stock at, or is TRS only place to find them? Will these work FX-R Lenses (2.5") - RI HID's ? I know the price is a little more but I want to get this done before Turkey Day
