on the factory installation the hex is already broken off for security reason...it's an anti-theft device. say you have to park your car in a rough neighborhood. with the immobilizer the theif will prefer to just tow your car.

say you were smart and turned the steering wheel all the way right or left with the front end of the car facing a wall or something when you shut your car off. then the theif would have a harder time winching your car up his flat bed or just towing your car with the front wheel on the ground. this is one of the reasons why the car has a steering lock.

angled needle nose pliers is the tool i used to remove. i tried using easy-out and my 90degree duck but mine was too big to fit in there and hard to get leverage to press the bit into the rounded screw head. i also didnt feel like dealing with metal bits and powder inside my car so did not use a rotary tool to cut a slit.

oh ok thanks for the info, makes perfect sense to me. Pretty good idea but a PITA for us since this is a known issue. I suspect mine will be going out soon!

Are they charging extra just for the immediate shipping? Because on their website they have them listed as "in stock" and $495 + shipping. And more importantly, are they the RevC and or RevD?

Well. I call the dealer to see what the status was. The guy that told me its the car starter...changed his mind and said its the steering wheel locked and already ordered the part. Its being overnighted and should be here tomorrow they said. Im still under my factory warranty so it is covered. When i asked so it is the steering wheel locked? Then he was like "well we dont know that for sure...were goin to try it and see" . So they giving me a loaner car. Thanks everyone for the help! Appreciate it! Hope they get this fix and takin care of!

Hmm, this might mean that the BCM can be updated to "delete" the steering lock (along with physical removal of course).

Anyone know if the BCM can be reflashed?
