Default DIY: AT Shift knob removal/replacement

A few members were wondering how to remove the stock shift knob so I thought I'd make a quick DIY.

Tools Needed: Your hands for removal, and whatever your new knob takes to put on. (My new knob came with a tiny allen wrench)

I bought this Momo knob from some Infiniti dealer on ebay for like 90 bucks.

First grab the sliver collar on the bottom of the stock knob and pull down, mine didn't take too much force to break loose.

Next pull out the wire pin that was covered by the silver collar and pull up on the knob to remove it.

The next steps will vary depending on the kind of knob you buy, but I'll show how I put mine on. It turned out to be quite easy.

The new knob came with a collar to cover the screws that it uses to hold it on, so slide that on first, then put the knob on.

One thing to note is that there is a bit of "play" in the white part that pushes down inside the shaft. If you don't seat the new knob down far enough you'll need to push it like an inch to shift, but if it's too far down it will give you a message on the dash cluster saying shift into park even though you are in park. You need to find the sweet spot.

The last step is to tighten the three small screws at the bottom of the knob trying to tighten them evenly, then screw the collar in to cover the anchor screws.

That's it. The new knob doesn't sit any higher than the stock knob. I wish it was a bit lower, and I even considered shaving down the white button part a bit to lower it. In the end I didn't want to screw anything up so I kept it as is.

I've had this knob on for probably about 10k miles with no issues whatsoever.

Can you take another pic a bit further away with the rest of the interior in view? Trying to see what this would look like in relation to everything else.

I'd really like a lower shifter. Shaving down that plastic part seems like an option, but I'd really like an option that was reversible.

So that Momo shifter was listed as a G37 Compatible one, correct? We need to see what other ones also work with the G37. I'd like some other options.

Not my style, but something shorter would be cool. GT-R would be nice.
