Ecutek tune@SpecialtyZ

Got my Z tuned last week by Sebastian at Specialty Z. Kind of a far drive but my car was in good hands, Sebastian was very helpful and answered all my questions. For those of you who know about my previous tuning fiasco, the difference between a good tune and bad sure is night and day. Also I've be running on the stock ECU for about a month, so my baseline reflects the stock ECU having had plenty of time to adjust. Without further ado here's my results.

Mods: Stillen G3, Motordyne M370 Manifold, Z1 HFC, CNT Catback

Baseline and tuning pulls were done in 4th. Ran a bit lean initially. Solid gains throughout the entire powerband!

Final Pull done in 5th: 304/264

Peak HP wasn't quite what I was hoping for but my gains are in line with everyone elses. The car around town drives far smoother, and of course it pulls harder as well. I especially like the improvement in the low rpm, I find I can stay in a higher gear and the car doesn't feel like it's bogging horribly.

Waiting for the rest of Ecutek's features to be released. Seeing the Miata, "The Twins," and the GT-R feature set being released about 3-4 months past when they were scheduled, I'm hoping the 370's fun stuff comes out by summer at least.

Those are solid gains. I wouldn't worry about peak numbers too much.

Sebastian and Gregg have been up here a couple of years in a row now for a group tune, and every year the event is a success. All the customers drive away happy, with much improved tunes...and the guys are always happy to explain things, and go the extra mile to do it right.

Looking forward to another successful even at the end of June this year.

The M370 is going to drop your peak hp numbers about 5whp or so, but you gain about 10 plus on the tq side of things and that is where you feel the power! It's all about the torque!

So would you say the ecu tek is advantageous or UP rev? I've seen up rev with cat back and intake dyno 325 to the wheels. Just curious that's all, nice numbers by the way.

In terms of power I'd say you'll make about the same with either one. There was a explanation on how Ecutek is easier to use for the tuners, though I don't remember the details so I won't go into that haha.

Feature wise once Ecutek releases the rest of the features (who knows when that'll be but I'll keep waiting...) it'll definitely be better than Uprev. Until then Uprev is the more complete solution.

I'm looking into tuning my Z fairly soon with the same kind of bolt ons, I plan on using ecutek as well, if u don't mind me asking how much did u pay just so I know what ball park I'm gonna be looking at Thanks!

Just seeing this for the first time now.

I disagree

EcuTek without it's advanced features - Launch Control, Flatfoot shifting is still a more complete solution simply because it offers 100% complete ignition timing control which no else can do unless they have a standalone computer installed.

Imagine installing a light switch that only worked sometimes.. that's UpRev.

Even UpRev's manual states the car is going to run what ever ignition timing it wants to - Well not with EcuTek!

Without EcuTek's latest features UpRev does Map Switching - but how useful is map switching when you dont have control over ignition timing?
