Default Aeroforce Interceptor

Hey Guys,

I have been using a gauge called the Aeroforce interceptor for all my cars. So I e-mailed Aeroforce to see if they have a gauge that would be compatible with the 370z.

The Interceptor hooks up to your OBD2 port and is able to read all the parameters that the ECU can read. It can also have external kits such as A/F, EGT, and boost. The gauge can shows up to two parameters at a time on the screen, but you can cycle through multiple options.

I personally like this gauge because it’s everything all in one. No need to have gauges all over the place to monitor your car.

I talked them into sending me one to try out on the car risk free. I will keep everyone updated on what the gauge shows on our cars, Aeroforce is anticipating the following will work:

1. INTAKE AIR- Intake Air Temperature
2. AMBIENT AIR TEMP - air temperature before the air filter, may be outside ambient or engine bay temp.
3. COOLANT TEMP- Engine Coolant Temperature
4. INTAKE VALVE TIMING - valve timing in degrees
5. RPM- engine Revolutions Per Minute
6. MAF SENSOR LB/M- Mass Air Flow (lbs/min)
7. MAF SENSOR VOLTS - raw voltage of mass air flow sensor
8. INJECTOR PULSE WIDTH
9. INJECTOR DUTY CYCLE – 0-100%
10. FUEL TEMPERATURE
11. THROTTLE POS PCT- Throttle Position percentage (0-100%)
12. CATALYTIC CONVERTER TEMP BANK 1
13. CATALYTIC CONVERTER TEMP BANK 2
14. MILES PER HOUR- Miles Per Hour
15. IGNITION ADVANCE- ignition timing advance
16. SHORT TRIM B1-short term fuel trim bank#1
17. SHORT TRIM B2-short term fuel trim bank#2
18. LONG TRIM B1-long term fuel trim bank#1
19. LONG TRIM B2-long term fuel trim bank#2
20. COMMANDED A/F RATIO – Commanded air-fuel ratio
21. TRANSMISSION RATIO - CVT transmission
22. TORQUE RATIO - CVT transmission
23. PRIMARY TRANSMISSION OIL PRESSURE
24. SECONDARY TRANS OIL PRESSURE
25. BATTERY VOLTAGE- Alternator/battery output voltage
26. ENGINE LOAD-calculated Engine Load (0-100%)
27. Miles Per Gallon – instantaneous fuel economy
28. Calculated net horsepower
29. TRANS TEMP- Transmission Temperature (gas powered automatics including CVT)
30. ENGINE RUN TIME - minutes since ignition was turned on
30. Analog 1 – analog input #1
31. Analog 2 – analog input #2

Along with all of that, there is a built in shift light. Other things to be tested are:

Manual fan control - this will be great at the track in the staging lanes, you can run your fans at a speed you select regardless of temperature.

Code Reader/Clear codes.

I am wondering if anyone knows if our car has a knock sensor or a misfire sensor? If so, I am hoping the gauge will read these as well.

I will be installing and testing it tomorrow night

Alright, so the testing last night went fairly well. The "red" color of the gauge is more like an orange, so it matches our interior very well. I will have some pictures up later.

Do not judge this list update to harshly, because there are many different firmwares available that may be able to fix some of the problems.

1. INTAKE AIR- Intake Air Temperature Works
2. AMBIENT AIR TEMP - air temperature before the air filter, may be outside ambient or engine bay temp. Not Working
3. COOLANT TEMP- Engine Coolant Temperature Works
4. INTAKE VALVE TIMING - valve timing in degrees Works
5. RPM- engine Revolutions Per Minute Works
6. MAF SENSOR LB/M- Mass Air Flow (lbs/min) Not Working, but there is another one measuring in KPA that IS working
7. MAF SENSOR VOLTS - raw voltage of mass air flow sensor Works
8. INJECTOR PULSE WIDTH Works
9. INJECTOR DUTY CYCLE – 0-100% There is no option for this in the menu :/
10. FUEL TEMPERATURE Works - measured at the tank
11. THROTTLE POS PCT- Throttle Position percentage (0-100%) Works - Very interesting, like most new cars the throttle does not go 100%. Mine never got past 88%, perhaps an orisis tune can remove this?
12. CATALYTIC CONVERTER TEMP BANK 1 Works
13. CATALYTIC CONVERTER TEMP BANK 2 Works
14. MILES PER HOUR- Miles Per Hour Not Working
15. IGNITION ADVANCE- ignition timing advance Works
16. SHORT TRIM B1-short term fuel trim bank#1 Works
17. SHORT TRIM B2-short term fuel trim bank#2 Works
18. LONG TRIM B1-long term fuel trim bank#1 Works
19. LONG TRIM B2-long term fuel trim bank#2 Works
20. COMMANDED A/F RATIO – Commanded air-fuel ratio Works though kind of useless
21. TRANSMISSION RATIO - CVT transmission Cannot test, I have 6mt
22. TORQUE RATIO - CVT transmission Cannot test, I have 6mt
23. PRIMARY TRANSMISSION OIL PRESSURE Cannot test, I have 6mt
24. SECONDARY TRANS OIL PRESSURE Cannot test, I have 6mt
25. BATTERY VOLTAGE- Alternator/battery output voltage Works
26. ENGINE LOAD-calculated Engine Load (0-100%) Works
27. Miles Per Gallon – instantaneous fuel economy Not Working
28. Calculated net horsepower Not Working
29. TRANS TEMP- Transmission Temperature (gas powered automatics including CVT) Cannot test, I have 6mt
30. ENGINE RUN TIME - minutes since ignition was turned on Works
30. Analog 1 – analog input #1
31. Analog 2 – analog input #2

Now here are some interesting sensors that worked that were not on the list:

o2 sensor volts - this one has me really excited. I am hoping this is reading the pre-cat wideband sensors. If so, we should be able to hook up a signal to one of the analog inputs and use this for an accurate wideband A/F gauge. No need to buy a kit At idle the sensor was reading about 2.1-2.2 volts. Assuming that 0v is 10 afr and 5v is 20 afr, that would mean 2.2 volts would be 14.4 afr which to me seems right around where is should be. Once my test pipes arrive I will be hooking this up to test it out.

Boost sensor - This one could prove to be quite interesting. Right now it is reading only negative boost obviously because I am N/A. Also, when I go WOT it never gets past -1 which I believe may be because of the throttle never getting to 100%. I believe in theory that even as a N/A application that boost should be able to hit 0? Now the big questions is would it read positive boost with a S/C or Turbo? and can we tune the throttle to get to 100%.

Fuel Status - Just says CL. Anyone know what this may be?

Barometer – straight forward

Oil Temperature - Pointless because we have the mechanical gauge, but still easier to read

As for the extras, I cannot check and clear codes because I have none lol. But there is no reason to think this will not work. I can scan for codes, and none come up.

The real disappointing news was the fan controls were not working. I am really hoping a firmware update can fix this.

I stuck the gauge here temporarily to test out the gauge. But now that it’s been there for a few days, I kind of like it there lol. What’s your feedback?

Start-up screen, kind of gives it an OEM feel lol

Pictures of the scanning

The fit and finish is great, the black face and silver bezel match our OEM gauges pefectly. I need to clean up the fingerprints on the screen though lol

That actually looks really nice! I am glad to see that Aeroforce took the time to customize the graphics, color, and bezel to match the 370z. How is it mounted?

Right now it’s just on there with double sided tape, it was supposed to be temporary. But now I might try and find a way to mount it up there properly. The other nice thing with that location is it was very easy to snake the wiring to the OBD port and since it gets power from that, there is only the one wire. The port is also up in the dash, so the entire wire is hidden.

That was the original plan, but Nissan engineers foiled that.

250 for a single gauge and 400 for a dual set-up. I'd really like to get a lot of support behind this so they will come a be a vendor on the site. I know they have done GB on other sites.

Ok, some really interesting news from Aeroforce. They did not realize that the 370z has wideband sensors. they believe they will be able to get A/f and lambda readings right off the OBD2 port!!! No having to run extra wires directly to the o2 sensors.

Does anyone know if other systems are able to pull the a/f off the obd? i.e. Osiris?

They also believe that they can get all the other features availiable including the fan controls. They will need a test car eventually, but are a bit to busy with other projects atm. But keep your eyes peeled, once they need a car they will be registering with the site, and test cars usually get a free gauge.
