Default Racing Seat Shoulder Holes and Harness's

Hi Guys quick question, I just got my recaro pole positions and the width is perfect.

My question is regarding the shoulder holes for the harness's

so shcroth, simpson, and basically everyone states "Shoulder belts must run from the shoulders horizontally or down, at no more than a 20° angle." and also that it should not in any way be deflected by the seat. So the thing is, I had a belt that I just held to my chest and my brother hold it horizontally behind me. At horizontal (0 degrees) the belt is deflected by about 1 cm. when I moved it at a -20 degree-ish angle there was no deflection. am i good? i feel like im cutting it close and im really only worried about spine compression

thats at a 20 ish degree angle

This was my issue with the SPG XL and why i was told by the Recaro dealer i could not run it safely

It is also why you test fit a seat before buying it

Curious as to why you couldn’t run it safely, does it not need to be at a downward angle not being deflected by the seat? I think you said before that it needs to be over your shoulders but that would cause deflection by the seat no? Also I had no
Option to test these out and the guys at evasive swapped the vios for these. I can always sell them so I’m not super worried but at the same time I really like the seats. I would even get custom made cushions for the bottoms to just sit a tad lower of need be

The holes were below the top of my shoulder.
Drive to evasive, they’re in SoCal

I drove to Sonoma and Berkeley to test recaro and sparco

My shop that installs everything will able to tell me. They’re avid track guys themselves and throw all of the events that I intend to attend. I’ll let you know what they say. I’m gonna make these work just cause it’s so close and my absolute favorite aftermarket seat

OZ is correct again! The holes should not be below your shoulders. If you are tall or have a long torso you need to find a seat that comes in a tall size or you can remove the padding. You don't want your collar bones broken in a collision.

Hey! I think everyone is misunderstanding. It’s below shoulder line but as you can see in the pics my shoulders don’t cover it. So when mounted it sounds like it’s exactly where it needs to be. So everyone recommends it going down at an angle and to not be deflected by the seat.
If it was above my shoulder that would cause deflection by the seat. How is it not supposed to be a little under your shoulder or exactly at shoulder line, that’s the part that’s confusing me

...also not tall by any means. I'm under 5'10

Lol, to see if I need to modify the cushion, not to sell the seat

You don’t want the straps pressing down, that’s going to kill or paralyze you
You want the straps above so the force in a crash pull you back

That is my understanding

The holes should be higher than top of your shoulder

Cutting the seat at all is NOT an option as that compromises the structural integrity of the shell

It does not matter how much U love a seat. If it doesn’t fit, you die.

I would love to run an SPG xl or some ******* bride variant. But they don’t fir

yeah i would never cut into the seat....just make custom bottom cushions that sit a little bit lower

are you saying the bottom of the holes have to be higher than your shoulder? if so when tightened that would mean that they're pressing against the bottom of the trim in the shoulder hole? from what i understand that is incorrect.

What I got from all of the info is that the harness straps supposed to go from the top of your shoulder to the harness bar at a 0-20 degree angle with no more than 500mm distance and without deflection from the seat which is exactly what is happening. is there something im not getting?
