In other news though - did Alex Song seriously, SERIOUSLY just push Iniesta out of the starting lineup for Barca?!?!?!!?!?!?????? WTF

That's pretty interesting. He sounds pissed off, but said he won't show that in front of his teammates or coach. . . hmhmmm:rolleyes:

I don't like watching sporting events in bars or whatever.

cow 09-05-2012 03:58 PM

Understandable. I do prefer to be by myself, most times. It's much easier to pay attention to the goings on.

phelan 09-05-2012 04:00 PM

well, it's one thing to go to the bar with randoms sitting there watching with you. but when you're with a group of gooners, it's pretty fun. lots of chanting going on with the los angeles group i was a part of for a while.

I wish I had a group to go watch matches with here in Phoenix. I don't think any bar opens up at 5:30a (early matches) or 8:00a (late matches).

I tend to just watch'em at home.

Other sports though, love going to the bar. Keeps me sane, otherwise I'd yell at the TV. :icon17:

:iagree: Watching a game with a group of people chanting for the same team in a bar is pretty fun!

For some reason, Fox Soccer Channel doesn't have Serie a anymore...:( Envy you guys.

cow 09-06-2012 09:59 AM

BeINHD carries Serie A & La Liga.

cow 09-06-2012 10:17 AM

I love the Shit Kits feature on WAATP.

I'm a couch potato more than a bar fly myself.

I wish we got better coverage of European futbol in the states, too. :(

Serie A was incredibly fun to watch last season.

phelan 09-06-2012 11:16 AM

Nobody shows the Bundesliga.

GOLTV usually has Bundesliga matches.

Not sure if it's live though, I haven't tried watching them in the morning. Maybe I will after the international break.

phelan 09-06-2012 11:40 AM

I lost GOL from my provider, and I cannot for the life of me find beINHD

cow 09-06-2012 11:49 AM

I'm on DirecTV-- GolTV is now 628 (or thereabouts) & BeIN is 620 (where GolTV was).

Thus far, I really like BeIN. Its sets & shows feel very well done, opposed to the really crap quality of some of GolTV (or even FSC)'s sets. They also run little vignettes, documentaries, & interviews that are really interesting.

phelan 09-06-2012 01:05 PM

Supposedly U-Verse will get BeIN soon. Not yet, though. The AT&T forums are hilarious for people blowing up going "WHERE IS MAH LA LIGAAAAAA" :rofl2:

bigsix 09-06-2012 02:13 PM

FSC will be showing the documentary on Liverpool this month. It could be kind of interesting. I don't get how LFC is " one of the most prestigious clubs in europe . " ; but, i've only been watching Premier League for 3-4 years now.

phelan 09-06-2012 02:34 PM

18 League wins, 5 European competition trophies, 7 FA cup wins, and a sprinkling of a few other trophies? Liverpool is just as old as Arsenal (AFC 1886, LFC 189...2?), and lays claim to a history of success...and tragedy. Liverpool supporters are among the most vocal, ardent supporters I know. They are certainly 'prestigious', and the club has a very, VERY rich history.

As a club they have been through so many ups and downs, I'm not surprised they had a documentary made about them. Arsenal documentaries are 'boring boring' lol

cow 09-06-2012 03:06 PM

Well said.

Also, being owned by a well-known & willing-to-go-on-record American owner like John Henry/ FSG makes the club easy to pitch to American audiences.

phelan 09-06-2012 03:42 PM

I should admit I have a soft spot for when the Kop belts out YNWA before every match.

Oh yeah, Liverpool is one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. Everytime when I think of Premier League, Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal are always the big 3 no matter how they stand currently. Liverpool has their glory in the history. Matter of fact, they've won the most CL titles in the history among English clubs... Clubs like Man City and Chelsea are new and belongs to the weird phenomena happens in recent history. They still have a long way to go to reach the level of Arsenal, Liverpool and Man U.

It's probably not coincidence Man city and Chelsea have won titles after spending large sums of money to buy top-class players. . .

Arsenal and A>W seem very frugal in comparison. My favorite new signing is def. Podolski: a guy who plays forward w/ muscle

True, but we don't have an oil tycoon to fund such outrageous wages that City, Chelski, Madrid, Barça, and PSG are offering.

We have Kroenke with the majority and on top of that, we've purchased a new stadium in the last seven years and we're paying that off quite quickly while still turning profits (unlike the above clubs).

True. I am a Milan fan. But we are pretty much in the same sh!t as you guys. We are the victims of those oil tycoons and Chelskis. But I am still proud of my team and will continue support them no matter where we are at.

Alchemy 09-08-2012 07:00 AM

A BIG  goes to the USA's performance last night against the Jamaicans. A lucky goal 36 sec in then owned for the rest of the match. Hope we can turn things around in Colombus Tuesday.

I saw a few of you comment on beIN. So far I think its a great channel! I wasnt paying for FSC or GOL before so I never got to see matches. Even since beIN appeared I have been able to watch way more soccer, I love it:tup:

Haboob 09-08-2012 09:42 AM

Yeah, it was pretty awful.

Hopefully we don't bounce ourselves out of the WC. I don't want to not have a country to cheer for while I'm down there!

cow 09-08-2012 12:21 PM

I missed the match buy caught the lowlights. How embarrassing.

phelan 09-08-2012 09:52 PM

sigh we fail

cow 09-10-2012 10:34 AM

Eh, it's one match in a very easy qualifying group. I wouldn't be worried.

phelan 09-10-2012 10:47 AM

to me it's not a question of qualification, it's that the USMNT doesn't have an identity again. there's no sense of cohesion between defense, midfield, and forward lines. we will probably (fingers crossed) go through, but we failed for the olympics already, so who knows?

i guess i never quite realized how big a player michael bradley was in keeping that midfield ticking. and i refuse to believe donovan is so pivotal to this side.

cow 09-10-2012 11:46 AM

I think the idea of playing fluid possession is well & good, but it's worth fck all without the players with the ability or imagination. Klinsmann would do well to recognize that breaking at pace isn't the worst thing in the world.

We don't have a lot of pace in the US side though.

cow 09-10-2012 12:13 PM

Very true.

cow 09-12-2012 12:50 PM

Team USA looked good for the first half last night-- shame they hit the woodwork 99389393 times. If they could have two consecutive good halves & score some fkn goals, I'd feel better about the team. Still, though, it was an encouraging performance.

phelan 09-12-2012 05:35 PM

Another chapter in Liverpool's storied history: it looks like Justice for the 96 may actually be closer than ever with the new inquest going on. It would be good for the squad, the city, its fans, and all of those families affected to find closure and move on.

Team USA to me, in the 2nd half, looked absolutely horrible, but then again, it's not Europe in terms of quality. So many misplaced passes, some pretty poor runs, awful looking defensive shape (the US back line reminded me of last year's Arsenal defense...people were everywhere!). If I had a dollar for every time Brek Shea tried to 'break', then back pass to his midfielder...I'd have enough for dinner.

The free kick was a freak of nature goal, the Jamaican GK was unsighted. But it was just rewards for an aggressive first half; now we just need the energy to keep up for 90 minutes.

BTW, LOL @ Deuce:

I love the way Bocanegra comes into picture. I wish there were a reverse angle to see the Jamaican player he was making fun of.

phelan 09-12-2012 06:18 PM

lol Boca must be thinking "WTF?" too!
