No, it's not quite as fashionable on me as it is on RvP there.

cow 08-14-2012 11:40 AM

Haha. I'm sure you'd be a good sport.

Speaking of good sports...

Increasing reports of Song being sold to Barca. Although I don't see it happening this year to be honest, if it does it will dampen all the excitement I currently have going into the season

phelan 08-15-2012 10:14 AM

Why? I'd consider it good business. Especially if we turn around and get Sahin or M'Vila.

I'd much rather have song than m'vila and sahin on loan.

Good buisness would be selling him prior to his contract expiring, not while there is 3 years left on it

phelan 08-15-2012 11:12 AM

But why? He's a vastly improved player, true, but he's not the guy we need to make "critical" to the team. I think M'Vila would be good, provides better shield for the back four than Song. With Cazorla in the midfield now, and god willing Wilshere returning soon, we could trot out any of Wilshere, Cazorla, Arteta, Rosicky, Diaby.

Those are pretty good players, and Song really never did curb his attacking intent, that we no longer need with Cazorla pulling the strings (ref. Song wasn't as attacking when Cesc was in red and white)

igotcabada 08-15-2012 01:18 PM

You're discounting song's value to the team while also counting on Wilshere and Diaby? thats interesting..

igotcabada 08-15-2012 01:32 PM

In other news, RVP's departure just announced on Arsenal.com

cow 08-15-2012 01:39 PM

Re, Song, 7amkickoff said it best:

Quote:

“he’s not a defensive midfielder; he’s the most defensive of midfielders in a not at all defensive system. Song could stand around and do nothing but shield the back two but that’s not what Arsene wants him to do. What he wants him to do is complete 90% of his passes, play through balls, get assists off wonderful chips, tackle, intercept, and shield the back two sometimes.”

& on his sale, to quote Arseblogger, with whom I completely agree here:
Quote:

Personally speaking, I think something in region of £15m+ add-ons/clauses, happens to be a decent amount of money for a player we bought for £400,000. And while it’d be better from our point of view if we had a replacement lined up (already there’s talk of Yann M’Vila) the reality of the transfer market is that it gets busier as the window moves towards its close.
I'm all for Sahin or especially M'Vila, but I don't want a loan player.

phelan 08-15-2012 01:48 PM

Bye bye RvP. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

you massive, massive c*nt, anywhere but united I would have still given you a modicum of respect. not anymore. none. zilch. nada.

24 million pounds for him is pretty good business though.

Yeah I was trying to get at those points here, but didn't sum it up correctly.

cow 08-15-2012 01:59 PM

Ditto. I was trying to paraphrase, but figured it was easier to quote & give credit.

In other news, apparently MU have signed some unknown Dutch guy. I hope he flops.

That sucks for your gunners, and yeah, I'd have rather RvP ended up anywhere but ManU as well. Well, Man City doesn't need to get any stronger either.

^Ravi Ubha is a tool, but I can't say I disagree with a lot of this. Arsenal need to spend the transfer fee and replace RvP. Get Song out now if we have to, and get one high grade premium striker, and M'Vila. That will make us a force to be reckoned with.

It'd be HILARIOUS if we went out and snagged Llorente, but I doubt that'll happen.

The glaring hole in the team now is at fullback.

USA!!!!!! Tim Howard was amazing vs Mexico, 2 HUGE saves!! Substitutes coming in, scoring and creating the goal. Way to go USA!!!!! 0-32 on Mexican soil, no more. I believe 1st win in 75 yrs against them:tup:

and HELL YES USA. finally a win in the Azteca! i was freaking out when they read off the team sheet too, that back line was...interesting, to say the least!

WHAT?! RvP went to ManU?? Sorry but I hate ManU!!

Red370 08-17-2012 03:43 AM

Everyone does.

Vermaelen named the new Captain, no one more deserving IMHO, he's been about Arsenal from day one and recently signed a long contract extension, great news. Arteta has been named vice captain. Fvck man i'm pumped for tomorrow.

phelan 08-17-2012 10:20 AM

Podolski took the 9 shirt, Wilshere is supposedly getting the 10. I guess we sold Park very quietly...

Just realized Iago is from Othello. I won't be sharing that faux pas with my professor-of-Shakespearean-literature mother.

Park is now #30. I feel good about Podolski breaking the "Arsenal's #9 isn't very good" streak.

I'm debating if I want an Arsenal jersey with just the number 10 on it now. F*CK names. At least I don't have to burn another jersey like I just did.

cow 08-17-2012 12:01 PM

If (when?) Song goes, I'll officially have no AFC kits with current players.

Song
Cesc
Nasri
Van Persie
Henry

I think that's it. I'm not buying names anymore. Feelsbadman.

igotcabada 08-17-2012 01:05 PM

should have made chamahk or captain so he leaves too

I made that decision a while ago, unless a legend (Like Henry, Bergkamp, etc.). Players are bought and sold too easily. There's very little loyalty in the game anymore.

As for Song, take the reported 20m and get Sahin and M'Vila or Llorente. We'd be so stacked in the midfield it'd be unreal. Then again, we'd also be ignoring the defense, again.

phelan 08-17-2012 04:31 PM

I'd feel a lot better about things if we got a left back and a defensive midfielder. Dunno who to even go for at LB though. All I know is that Gibbo and the cuddly maverick that is Andre Santos don't really fit the bill yet. YET.

I'd love to get Llorente, but...yeah, right. This is Arsenal we're talking about here.

Red370 08-18-2012 11:12 AM

Awful performance today, only bright spot was Cazorla. Poldi was worn the fvck out at 50 minutes, and Giroud, what can I say, guy missed a sleeper from 5 meters. Absolute shyt performance today.

blue660r01 08-18-2012 12:09 PM

bitter, already? jeez. at least we didn't get spanked 3-0 like liverpool just did.

seriously, 1 game. whatever. cazorla is class, i don't expect giroud to do that very often, and podolski will get used to it soon.

meanwhile we have lots of cash to burn!

OPENING DAY CALM DOWN EVERYONE.

Bitter because i'm watching a team, a team that completely outclassed Sunderland in every way, and we couldnt even get ONE, ONE goal. I'm not dooming the season yet, but we have ALOT of areas that need improving.

You can say "first game" all you want man, but look at who we'll be facing up through the end of September, we needed those points. ESPECIALLY against mediocre opposition.

phelan 08-20-2012 03:49 PM

I understand the frustrations dude, but seriously any other day we could've dumped five on Sunderland. Cazorla oozes class, Giround made a brilliant run (and absolutely SHANKED that chance, but meh), Podolski I think might actually take a back seat to the guy if the cards are played right. I think the team is still in gel-mode because the preseason was such a mess. I won't pass judgment just yet.

I WILL pass judgment on Theo. First ball of the game, straight out of bounds for a throw in. WTF?

Alex Hleb Song to Barca...meh. I hear Rennes is expecting Arsenal to come back for M'Vila. Still not sold on that guy.

Wenger is public about wanting another defender, hope he's a fullback.

And while this is a few minutes premature, I'm about to pull the trigger on an Everton jersey.

HEY JUDAS VAN C*NTIE, AT LEAST WE DIDN'T LOSE OUR OPENING GAME!

http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/...oming--001.jpg

edit: F*CK YES, EVERTON YOU LOVELY BUNCH OF CHAPS

Never, EVER seen Fellaini and Distin put in a shift like they did today.

James Tyler: Ryan with the rain on the parade. But of course, he's right. It is just one game. But what a game. Schadenfreude for Arsenal fans who saw van Persie look ineffectual and lost.

Red370 08-21-2012 02:59 AM

There was absolutely nothing more satisfying to watch Everton manhandle ManUre, they were outclassed everywhere. Fellaini was a nuisance everywhere, and to be honest, I wish we would have made good on all the links we had earlier this year with him, would have been a perfect replacement for Song. Pienaar has suprised me as well, the guy has been great.

I honestly have no fvcking clue how he can live with himself, sold his soul for money and glory... This was a dude who was videotaped wearing an Arsenal shirt when he was 12 years old, a supposed lifelong fan, and then he comes up with that "it was my childhood dream" bullshyt to play for ManUre. WTF happened to that dude?
