Not been on here in a while, still driving the s#*t out of my Z and enjoying it. Had a hectic month, my son graduated from FSU and moved back home within two weeks got a great job in California, we flew out there to visit him, he's training in San Fransisco then he has the choice of working in LA or San Diego. When we were due to fly back our flight got delayed, in the end we managed to get my wife and middle son, who came with us on a flight that night, I was supposed to fly out the next morning but I had a brain wave, he got a company vehicle with his job so we were going to ship his car back, instead I decided to bank the plain ticket and drive the car back, 3000 miles and 2.5 days later I got home, it was very hard work but a fantastic road trip!

Are you looking for upgrading base brakes or akebono brakes, and are you looking to upgrade calipers as well or just pads and rotors? Z1 sells a kit to upgrade your base brakes to the akebonos, and they also have some pads and rotor kits, I'm not sure who has the best deals on aftermarket BBKs. I'm looking to upgrade my base brakes, but that's one of the last mods on my list, or at least until I get out to an autox event

If you have Base Breaks and swap to Sport Calipers you will need:
*Braided Lines or stay stock (Best Lines are from Goodridge) Z1 are fine
*Steel Intermediate Line that runs to the proportioning block to Caliper
*Calipers - Buy set of Infinity Calipers and have them Powder Coated any color you want. Will still be cheaper that buying 370z Calipers.
* Set of Sport Rotors

Some guy's attach the steel braided line directly in to the calipers. That will give you a softer feel. Routing the line through the proportioning block will give you the feel your looking for.

Don't for get there is a difference in Brake Booster from Base to Sport so you will be using base booster with sport calipers. Minor size difference in the piston is not an issue for the swap. You can get one on ebay for 100.00 or just leave the base booster in, difference isn't really that noticeable.

Z1 package is good, but you have to ask for the steel adapter line that runs from the back of the caliper to the stock proportioning block.

This is what I have on my Sophie.... Thought I would share: http://brakeperformance.com/brake-ro....php?did=38782

Any idea why attaching the ss lines to the calipers gives a softer feel? I was just talking about this earlier, I upgraded from base brakes to the Akebono calipers, ss lines, drilled/slotted rotors, centric pads and motul fluid. When it was all finally installed I couldn't really feel a difference from my base brakes. I didn't get the premium ss lines, just the regular Z1 package so I didn't have any proportioning blocks to hook up to. I'm also having my shop re-bleed the brakes, John at Z1 says it sounds like they might not have gotten all the air out of the lines even though I can stop and actuate the ABS if I want to. There's just no improvement from before.

Those blocks regulate the flow of brake fluid and pressure to the piston. It keeps pressures up with out them we run fluid in and out directly into the caliper from the boost to the distribution block on the inner fender. Puts more work on the booster.

Also the Base Booster is smaller piston but not by much. My guess is that the booster and lines going directly into the caliper may be why there is no difference in feel.

Another base caliper swap I did I noticed that the brake line ends are designed for the brass block creating a solid seal (Pressure Fitting). The back of the caliper wasn't the same. It is set up for the steel brake line flange. That customer had to come back twice. It was difficult to tighten down and stop a small leak. You are using the threads to seal at the connection when going directly into the caliper with a braided line.

I would get the steel hard line extensions and ebay for the blocks. If its still soft after that, 100.00 Booster Swap last resort. The hard lines and blocks will fix the soft feel, proper sealing of the fittings, no air, tight feel.

Then Z1 is the best place I've found other than picking up a used set, but people seem to want a lot for their used calipers so u r only saving $100-$200 from buying brand new ones, so I'm leaning towards new ones. I've found a few other sites that sell just the calipers for about $450 a set, I think z1 is around $1400 for calipers, pads and rotors
