I don't get the complaints about the price. The base FRS is gonna be about 25k. The base BRZ will probably be more like 26.5 but it has Nav and other options as standard. That's cheaper than all but the lowest trim Mazda MX-5 and people don't complain about the Mazda's price. ...

The Mazda is also a convertible, which is usually a little more expensive than a coupe anyways.

True enough, but the Mazda MX-5 most comparable to the BRZ Limited -- the top tier trim with leather, Bluetooth and satellite radio but no Nav, is listed at 31.2K. That's a few K above what we expect the Limited to run and the limited will have Nav.

Mx-5 is also an established well known brand. People buy it because it's an mx-5. FRS has nothing working for it though. They don't yet have a brand image.

For example if toyota made the Supra again and made it 400+ hp twin-turbo v-6 stock, people would pay 60k for that because its a "Supra"

Maybe, but people also buy it because it is a relatively low-cost fun to drive sports car. The FRS/BRZ is also looking to be a relatively low-cost fun to drive sports car that is similarly priced.

Are you saying the Mx-5 is worth the price *because* it is an established brand but the BRZ isn't because it's brand new?

If you're simply arguing that it is priced to high to be competitive in that very small market ... I dunno, maybe you are right. But that has nothing to do with whether it is worth the price.

Just seems to me they missed the ball. When they first started teasing about it I thought it would be every tuners dream...a 20K car thats easy to mod and can handle relatively good amount of power.

Now it costs 25K min. and reports are it can't handle any power what-so-ever.

I guess we just had different expectations and wants with respect to the car. Frankly, I would be less inclined to pick one up if it were 20k. I'd much rather get a little more upscale car with higher build quality than a new-bodied RWD version of an econo-box.

But, of course, if it is 25k and the interior materials and build quality are cheap, then I'll be disappointed.

Fair enough

Perfect example of a cross shop you would not expect.
I want a DD, FRS v Juke. Juke. Juke gets great gas mileage, has a turbo, plenty of space to carry my sh*t and did I mention has a turbo? Oh and the starting price is 20k. FRS is a solid handling car, but is more expensive, less storage (ok I can carry an extra set of wheel/tires for auto-x), and has a decent motor from Subaru.

Tough call to pick for a DD, but honestly the Juke is going to win. Especially having the chance to really drive one, for being up off the ground it can handle ok, throw on a set of springs and you could auto-x it if you wanted.

Edit: And the Juke, for a higher price, has an AWD option.

^^ Funny. I thought seriously about the Juke. But it's just too big. Call me funny, but I've got a thing for small cars --- very small cars. Gas mileage is a toss-up between them from what I've heard about the Juke -- on the flip side the BRZ will require premium ..

The gas thing from what I can tell for the Juke comes down to people not putting premium in it, because it just says "recommended." Of course all ratings are going to be with top fuel so anyone not using premium is going to see lower end results. Same thing happens with my sister's Murano, she gets maybe 5MPG less or more when using a lower octane.
