I test drove a CTSV

DCNISMO! CONGRATS! I do not believe you overpaid, and you got a good trade in value as well! Also I remember reading a long term test of the CTS V

V wagons are pretty rare, even more if its a manual 6 speed.

When you buy a used car you have to calculate the deal using what the actual wholesale value of your trade in is and what you could buy the new used car you want for a clean deal cash value. Then the dealer should only make around $1000-$2000 on the total deal in profit.
Well, I don't deal in shoulds and show me that bill of sale..... I fully know they make more money on used car sales than new ones. For some cars maybe you can get that deal you described, but its not going to happen to a high dollar luxury car....maybe for a Sentra or Civic, sure. They had two offers on the V when I got there, but I was the first one to cut a check and do a deal.

Wholesale price on your 2011 Z $26,500 and $29,000 trade in and the CTS-V is $31,500 wholesale and $36,500 trade in. So a better deal would have been your Z and $7000 -$7500.
When buying a used car you should never pay more than $1000 more than trade in price, because in most cases dealers never pay more than wholesale for a car, they took in trade.
If you can get that kind of deal, I'll take two.

Basic dealer BS if they had firm offers for the car then they would have been under contract and couldn't sell it to you.
When you buy a used car you have to factor in that, if you had to sell the car the very next day, what could you unload it for with in 48hrs.

The cars worth $31500 - $36000 max, nothing about would, could or show me, just simple buying practices.

He's already bought the car and is happy with it - that's all that matters. What are you trying to prove by insisting he overpaid? He obviously didn't care the first time you said it. You're obviously not trying to help anyone out here, and it seems to me like you're jealous.

Can we agree that it's an amazing car, congratulate him, and leave it at that?

Nothing special about the car, you have to remember its a 4 yr. old GM car and price it accordingly. If you can't get the car, for the price you want, then you walk, let someone else pay the high price if they really want it.

Good luck, with you car, not trying to trash your purchase, just going thru the numbers.

Drive it and enjoy it.
