He's not saying bad things about the Supra, but it is an honest comparison to a known quantity.

Spoiler - he says the 86 is more fun, although the Supra is the better performer.

Dollar for dollar - hmmmm.
What he's honestly saying that he's scared to drive any real high powered sports car the way he should. Cuz he's so on point about not crashing he's not having fun. His opinion of his liking is based on his lack of driving confidence in machines with small windows like the Supra, Z camaro and other sports cars that are brolic with slit style windows. He's honest about his skill level more than anything.

I think that what he's saying is that potential buyers should really look at what they want to do with the car and consider the value of the (known quantity) 86 as a benchmark. Especially given the price difference. No doubt they are two quite different vehicles.

The Supra may well be a far better car than he is a driver - that's not a bad thing, if you want to dedicate yourself to improving on the track. But it almost takes a racetrack to get the goodies out of something like the Supra. Not quite on a par with Porsche or supercars, but a more serious entry than the 86 which is just a blast to drive anywhere, period. The lesser Toyota can be driven at the limit in most situations, and therefore needs some major mods to satisfy a serious track driver as skill levels progress. The Supra is more capable, but on the street will be less fun.

I'm not trying to diminish the Supra in any way, but since 99.9% of people who buy either car will not ever even drive it past the gate of a race track, I think it is a fair comment and a comparison that needed to be made.

And if you look at Jason's other video's, he's definitely under-stating his own driving skills. He's done a lot of track driving with competent instruction, including the Porsche Winter Driving Experience. He's just not the type to go out and flog a car every weekend chasing tenths like some of us. He also hasn't learned many bad habits.

At first, by the title, I thought that it was going to just be click-bait. But after watching the video, I think it made sense.

Honestly... I've driven the 86. It's a Honda vtec that spins the wheels in the back. That's the best way to describe. I mean. All of us being in Z's or better. I couldn't make this case. From where I see on paper. The Supra is comparable to a Camaro but in a Z size. That's what I'm talking about. So many years people done whined about wanting a 400hp Z and more torque. By some miracle of the car gods the most boring car company of the last 17 year's gets a fun transplant and he's making a case why it's more fun to be in a RWD Toyota civic. I'm just not in agreement with the fun factor of the 86. It doesn't rev high like the S2k. It doesn't have power like the Z and you have to pay mid 30s for a car with 205hp w/ track bits. I mean if you wanna low hp car that's meaningful? The s2k would've been it. Does that mean the 86 is a bad car? Not at all. Its just, none of us here should be looking at a starter sports car. We're past that point. Some will argue balance. Well then I'd say get a Cayman or a 4C. The 86 is something I'd buy if I had an 18 yr old son that needed to learn driving dynamics. And Porsches have big ole sedan windows that novice drivers will love. Me... I'm confident driving out of slit windows. Not a problem. So I wouldn't whine about visibility on track .

Spoken like a true American. :-P
Forget the windows. How many posts here are "if it only had a manual"? The 86 does. The Supra . . . might.

And forget the horsepower. Supra has the exact same horsepower per ton that the 370Z has. The reason to go to the new Toyota is the torque provided by the turbo motor. That's a fact.

BTW, the S2K is boring as hell to drive unless you rev it above 7K. That gets really old after a while on the street. Your neighbours won't love you, but you'll enjoy tinnitus for the rest of your life!

Most people (myself included) don't know how to handle a car well enough on track for the first several years anyway, and giving them all that HP is doing them a disservice. Putting them in a 400HP rocket usually only masks their mistakes. Giving it to them for the street - can you say "Mustang"?

Anyway, if this chart displays properly, then the only thing you need to figure in is the fun factor, which is too subjective to measure and will be different for everyone here...

EDIT - sorry - don't know how to make the chart appear larger. :-(

I have tinnitus thanks to chemo n a S2K. Lol. Not the S2k. I mean you say that gets really old but. Most people with 2 seater sports cars have something else to drive. And the supra does not compare to a Z. Did you not see the dyno specs? From a dunk there's nearly 100hp difference. Which explains the half second faster it is. The Z is a dinosaur by comparison. This car is laying down the same times as my camaro.

Like I said... Were in a Z forum. Did u own a Z? Did you track it? If you did 300hp at the wheels? Then u can graduate to 400? But anyway. To each his own.

370 = Hanz
Supra = Franz

86= needs to get pumped up!!

U wanna manual. Camaro SS 1LE. So friggin underappreciated.It will be a classic to a generation that will appreciate more than uber Starbucks and being gender binary
