Nice shop too - I went over to Smithtown Nissan and Alex introduced me to some guys. Honestly, I think I'm going to buy a 2011 EVO with a goal of 400 tq/whp. I think it's very doable on the stock engine w/93.

After that I went to VTR - they had two GTRs over there - Anthony w/the white 09 (~580 at the wheels w/~20 lbs boost) and another 2010 gunmetal silver - loud as ****. Straight pipes w/Meistercraft (sp) CBE. Could hear it miles away, heh.

I say this because after all this, I think I want a new or -1 year GTR. Not an 09. And since I don't want to spend more than ~65k, I'll always be near the end of the 3 year warranty and have 3 years of previous owner *damage* heh. So, I'll wait until I can spend 85k on a GTR and do it right, instead of reaching now and having to settle.

An Evo or Sti (But I already tuned an STi in the past), so Evo, is way cheaper (than a GTR) and relatively cheap to tune (good $ to whp ratio). It also fits 4x people and has AWD.

I'm not a BMW guy; they are VERY nice, both exterior and interior, but they are just "not me". Maybe in a few years my view wil change. I sort of feel the same way about Infiniti. I want AWD, so no Mustang. Anyways, that's my current thought(s).

You guys coming out Wed? (Oh no, just looked at the weather ...)
i'm not a bmw guy, per se, either... go test drive a 335 xi coupe before you make your car decision.

Fair enough - I'll swing by today - however, the MSRP is like ~46k on a new one ...

if you were gonna get a used GTR whats stopping you from getting used anything else? i paid 35k for a CPO 2008 335xi coupe that was fully loaded and i have warranty coverage until august 2014 (6 years from original purchase date)/100k miles. and you can still get close to your 400whp with bolt ons and a tune. you're at about 340 with just a tune.

i'm not recommending the car because i'm fanboi or anything, its honestly just my opinion that its a very good car and from what it sounds like you are looking for, might be very suitable. if you said you wanted a track car or something that would be insanely fast, i wouldn't say go for it.You want something thats AWD, Fun, tunable/respond well to mods, and arguably practical, and its just that. that's exactly the reason i got it. It can pretty much do anything an evo or STI can do except its quiet and comfortable.

You win man. You win. Picking up a 2011 335 xi tomorrow. What a blast to drive. Got an automatic, I don't care, it's not a track car or a drag car (though I will take it to the drag strip) - it was a blast to drive, beautiful inside (kicks the **** outta the evo/sti), AWD, pretty docile looking on the outside and has a great warranty. blah blah, don't have to tell you man. I'll take it to the meet tomorrow. I'll keep this thing for a while, or at least until I get a new GTR.

haha wow really?? thats aweosme. i really like the automatic in this car. its a really nice transmission. i felt pretty much the same after i drove one. my tuner was telling me i should get one and i was like 'ehh i'm not a bmw guy really' he's like 'go drive one' i was sold haha. even stock i love it. i've been in a few full bolt on/tuned ones and they are real fast too.

fyi the 2010's have the n55 motor which doesn't have forged internals and is single turbo... a lot of the 335 people seem to prefer the n54 motor which is twin turbo and has forged internals. i'm not sure i haven't done that much research on it. But either way stock for stock a n55 and n54 will perform pretty much the same, its just when modding the n54 has a little more potential, but unless you are modding it to the max i think you'll be ok. just something to consider though.

Wow...that was a fast purchase. Another 335 conversion to add to the list.

Between 2007-2008 the N54 used forged internals. For 2009 the N54 used cast. And for 2010+ BMW uses the single-turbo N55 which cannot handle as much power as the N54 can. Same bolt ons and tune from both cars will show a 40WHP difference - the most the N55 can make with bolt ons + tune is ~360WHP. The N54 can do 400WHP, before meth.

Interesting... didnt know all the details. oh mrsk, make sure your car comes equipped with an oil cooler and the sport seats. the sport seats are the one with like 500 adjustments on it.

All good points - I'm not going to do a ton of modding to this - ecu, fmic and turbo back and call it a day. Didn't know all the differences w/the models that is good to know. Yeah, I think it has sport seats, the oil cooler not so sure about, will check.

I literally drove all sorts of cars today, went to every dealer in smithtown; audi, vw, audi, bmw, etc. Happy w/the car, going back tomorrow to finalize.

cool glad to hear. btw the 335 has a full 2.5" exhaust from the factory, only do an exhaust if you want sound. The best bang for your buck in bolt ons is the downpipes, and FMIC. and of course the tune.

so what did you get? sedan/coupe? color?

I got silver coupe w/black interior, all sorts of options. If the weather holds, I'll come through with it tomorrow.

I'd like to change the sound, something a bit deeper. This company has a few parts for the car: BMW Performance Tuners | 335 Performance | BMW Chip | E90 Tuning | BMW 335 Performance | BMW Wheel Spacers

if you want the tune, get a cobb. definitely the simplest option. most expensive but best one. it'll cost you about 750, but its a reflash not a piggyback like the jb4. check out the golf tee mod. it'll make your exhaust louder. arnold did it to his gf's car.

I don't think you can get an XDrive 335i with oil cooler. Also, they only come with sports if you got any one of the numerous "sport packages" that used to be available for the car, this includes just getting the paddle shifter option, for example. Now, BMW only has one sport package for the 335 AWD coupes (M Sport), which is the only way to get the sport seats.
