Again, I understand what and why they are doing it. Makes complete sense. And we should just be happy there is a new car. But I would still actually applaud them if they would just come out and say it. Stand up, tell it like it is, and beat your chest about having a true manual tranny sports car while others don't. 240z-280z were generally the same chassis, just federal mandated changes like bumpers and emissions. BTW, note that Datsun used "240" or 260" to designate engine size. 280zx was a different or heavily modified chassis with different suspension and more weight. Obviously Z31 300ZX totally different, as was Z32 300ZX. This brings me to a point I keep thinking I may be correct about: Nissan is unlikely to use "400" to designate the Z. I am not quite sure where "400" comes from, maybe the anticipated 3.0TT HP? However, Datsun/Nissan never did that before. Also, they didn't require increasing the number either as Z31 and Z32 were both "300" despite having several HP levels and being 2 totally different cars. For Nissan to use "400" would be a deviation from the heritage, which has been very consistent. I suspect it will either drop the numbers (I am unsure about Fairlady) or Nissan will call it "300Z" This would be different than the Z31 and Z32 as they were called "300ZX". Also, I keep hearing publications and YT videos say the car will also use the 7AT. I sure hope not! Nissan has a 9AT now and it is regarded as a much better trans than the 7AT. I have a 7AT in my Q60, it's "OK" but I wouldn't buy it again. I'm definitely getting the 6MT Z. |

If they are going to have a option for a 7AT or 8AT, they have no choice to make improvements. Currently what a lot of cars are using the ZF transmission and it seems a good one. Nissan has to make it on par with the zf. I'll be in my bunk!

Maybe it's just from being on BMW forums for 5+ years and having to see the new G22 & G80-G82 grill on the front page for however long, but I find the new Z grill pretty refreshing

decent looking car.
I'll save the rest until I see one in person. I think a lot of you would poo poo on anything they did. Nissan is a company in financial trouble and the fact they didn't just kill off the Z all together is honestly the biggest surprise to me. Let's see how it performs. I'm not a big tech guy and honestly, I'll shy away from cars that have too much tech in them. |

I think there are 3 clear main issues with the 400Z.
1. The color they revealed it in was just a down right bad choice. It hid what lines and curves it has and fails to pop in pictures. If you look at the videos of it driving in the sunlight you can see the lines better and it looks a little cleaner, but it definitely would look better in almost any other color. 2. The front bumper/grille is a joke of design when looking head on. The rectangle look doesn't work and will never work with a modern design. I think the overall size of it is okay. The issue is, it's literally just a rectangle. Take a look at other sports/super cars with huge grille like the new Q60 or new Audi R8. They have a massive grille but it works and looks aggressive because it's more of a hexagonal shape. 3. Trying to modernize the older retro look of past Zs just doesn't entirely work here, IMO. I think they tried too hard to literally copy and past some of the designs when they should've just redesigned the look and then incorporated subtle retro styling cues. I do like the headlights. I feel like the tail lights could've been executed better. When I look at that long black strip of paint between the taillights I almost imagine the Toyota Prius rear. Maybe changing that black rectangle to body color would look better. Also, giving the tail lights a more 3D, unique shape instead of the flat, blocky appearance it has now, would really help. Overall, I think they could've been a bit more creative with certain elements without breaking the bank. The interior is perfectly fine for me. The side profile looks great. Just tweak the front grille/bumper and the rear a bit and I'll take one hands down. This video explains exactly my thought process on why the front grille needs a redesign. I have to say it's pretty disappointing to see some of the negative comments after the reveal. We all knew it was gonna take quite a bit from the Z34, so I have no clue what some people are surprised about. And then to go on an on about how the old headlights tail lamps are better... didnt we want something new? Idk maybe some folks are just trying to convince themselves that they're best off keeping their 370z, and for your situation, maybe that's best, but I'm just stoked that Nissan kept the Z alive in the first place. They threw in the tech that everybody's been crying for, they kept the manual alive, and they're giving us a boosted 3.0 for a start. I thought it looked beautiful on it's own and I'm taking that front end with a grain of salt knowing that they still have bits of tweaking left. I dont know. I guess with as long as this thread has been around I thought we would have all been grateful at the very least that they didnt kill it off

I love the Z. Hope the production model looks just like what they showed. Of course, it won't come with a carbon front lip, side sills, and rear diffuser. Doubt it would come with those GT-R brakes either (perhaps as options). A totally new, from the ground up redesign with a new chassis costs over a billion dollars these days. I understand the budget for this refresh was around $240 million. As low as 370Z sales are, it's a miracle that Nissan is going to do this car. I love what they have done considering the constraints they are under. I LOVE this car and look forward to seeing it with my current 370Z! There will be plenty of aftermarket options for a replacement front bumper if Nissan doesn't change it and you don't like it- I understand they already have suppliers going ahead with making parts for the car and the front end probably is set in stone now. I think it looks good anyway- I like the stark and clean design.

If it’s 400 horse and a manual trans for $40,000, I order one today.
If it’s 300 horse and a manual trans for $60,000, I pass and keep MZ DAIZY. Just my ![]()

![]() Anything less than 400hp/400tq is a fail at the price point they want to come in at, IMO. The Red Sport 400 came with 400hp/350tq in 2016 with the auto. 2020 Loaded Non-Nismo Zs priced in the mid $30s with 332hp/269tq and $40k+ Nismos with 350hp/276tq. MSRP, but hey it's the prices that they are putting out there. Nissan better come swinging. I am digging what I've seen so far.

I like it. Not enough to get out of my '16 Nismo with all the go fast goodies. I'm laughing at some of these comments. The first person who puts on a decent bodykit, wheels, and exhaust will be the catalyst in changing minds especially if the aftermarket supports the car.
