You mean it won't be called the 400Z as rumored? Keeping the 370Z name instead?

If Nissan can pull a major sneaky on us like that I would be highly impressed.... and happy lol.

Let’s just hope that Nissan is too far into development to scrap it, rather than just cut their losses.

well thing is i doubt the Z would get the 4.0 before the GTR however the R36 is supposedly hybrid so may go smaller on the engine with the addition of EV power.

so who knows.

the z had the bigger motor in the 90s, might be a good chance :)

or they get the same but GTR is bigger snails and bigger fuel system.

Z will most likely be a 400hp and 450hp variant between regular and nismo.

next gtr can be so many different power levels depending on the electric power.

I know we have to take news with a grain of salt. But if there's any truth to this? And the Z is gonna have the Q engine? Its gonna be a steal. Praying for DCT.
N you azzholes better not complain if its clunky. Thats part of its charm. That mechanical feel. I don't mind it at all. It would be great next to my so called "shytbox" camaro ss thats killing mad cars on the road.

Covid really beat Nissans azz. Cuz they are in financial ruin and the economy is tanking. But you never know. Nissan also. Once they set their mind on something they do it usually.

400hp for $40k is awesome. It puts them in competition not only with the supra but the LT1 camaro and mustang gt again.
If the Z becomes a car of decent quality and true Z performance? It may eat up sales of the supra...
But... that said. The supra is heavily modifiable. I haven't seen too many Q60 builds . So... its a toss up?
If nissan makes tuning a priority as well. It may be a better value than the supra.

WHYCANTILOGIN 05-20-2020 03:11 PM

i'd never buy an old car over 50k since ill be using it as a DD. I wasnt into the supra at first then i saw one in person.

the last article from carbuzz got me second guessing the supra tho lol.

seen multiple in person. each time i do i like them even less lol

personal preference though as is with any person and any car.

i love GTR's and most people either think it's an ugly brick or have no idea what it is.

I'm a fan of the gtr. But nissan should of put more r&d to lighten it up when they first made it. If a corvette can be under 3500 pounds, the gtr could be at least 200 pounds lighter.

I'll be in my bunk!

you're right but i will say for being a big 2 ton bitch it moves like it's much lighter.

honestly only time i really noticed the weight was on the dragon. after 6 years of running the Z on it then switching to the GTR down there you realize quickly they're 2 different worlds lol

Speaking of GTR, the special edition Nissan GTR 50 is officially in production

Maybe a good sign for the Z?

And they haven’t even sold them all yet

Seems like a ludicrous purchase
It’s an ugly design and not better than what you could do for a quarter of the money

ZoomZ 05-21-2020 06:38 PM

Screw Toyota and the Supra. This is a Z site. :tiphat:

Hmmmm... 2021 they say... well I assume the new models should be in transit or close to it to hit showrooms this August/September. :ugh2:

Yup. Unfortunately, it is looking more and more like the Z will be killed off on May 28th :(

But hopefully that's just in Europe :driving:

[OFFICIAL] Discussion for the next new Z35?

That article is actually one of the better rumor mill articles I’ve read. Whoever wrote it seems to be more informed of the Z’s history than the others that just spout off random information. Hopefully we will know more on the 28th. Let’s just cross our fingers that they don’t completely kill off their sports cars. IMO that would be a bad marketing plan as Nissan won’t have any vehicles to draw excitement to the brand. Sports cars have never really been a money maker for the market. Hopefully Nissan realizes this and at least attempts to launch a new Z to see how it will fare. If they do, they better come out swinging though. Other automakers have come out with A LOT since the 370z was launched, which left the 370z in the rear view (figuratively and literally).

I really like it! I'd buy one!

The big issue here is IF Nissan will actually introduce a next gen Z car given their current financial condition.

KCZ 05-27-2020 11:13 AM

I'd be all over that. Which means it will never happen.

I am amused by people thinking Nissan is really gonna release a low-volume, $35-50k sports car during an economic down turn when it is already bleeding money.

A money losing car during money losing times when you're on a money losing streak would be fantastic

I know this is not a Supra or Toyota thread but the story behind that car is relevant. Toyota, which is much more successful financially than Nissan, deemed it economically unfeasible to develop its own RWD drivetrain and platform to the point it needed to partner with BMW for most of the engineering and for basically all of the manufacturing.

It could not do the 86 by itself either, partnering with Subaru for R&D and production.

so . . . how is Nissan, looking to slash sales targets and production costs, gonna produce a new Z again?

Just sell me the VR30 carb legal swap kit. Only dev cost is emissions and some packaging ****, the engine and tranny already exist

****, a Z34 with a VR30 and a six speed would be more fun and cheaper than the fuckin supra anyways

so

this seems bad:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/27/busin...nce/index.html

Nissan, which reports financial results for fiscal year 2019 on Thursday, has endured four straight quarters of declining profits. Operating profit fell to 54.3 billion yen ($504 million) for the three months ended in December, plunging 83% from the same quarter a year before.

Rusty 05-27-2020 03:12 PM

Nissan needs to come out with a new car, and has to hit a home run it right off the bat.
