Do this first
Street Survival School, sponsored by Tirerack, BMW Car Club of America, Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) This school will teach you about the limits of your car and your own limits, with an experienced instructor in the car. Then as others have said, Autocross, aka solo racing. Develop your capabilities as a driver. You may think you are the greatest driver in the world, and you may be, I don't know. But it's often the other morons on the road that will kill you. One day, inexpensive, fun, and you use your own car. It will be the best $75.00 ever spent. Your parents may even pay for it. Learn your car then modify. Welcome to the forum. Hang out, yack, don't get yourself dead eh? ![]()

If you were buying a motorcycle I'd suggest a smaller bike before a big one. Why? You will never learn certain subtleties where power compensates for mistakes. Good luck.

![]() AutoX is a great cheap starting point, and you can do it a lot. All it costs is brakes and tires, and you can go every month. Hands down the best money I've ever spent was a Skip Barber Racing School course, but those cost several grand.

When I started driving , the thing I always heard is " Its not the car, its the driver "
Guys in Little Miatas that have to spool up the engines to keep up with much faster cars normally have better lines, keep the car securely planted on the ground and know how to drive better than guys with fast cars. I see it all the time. A dam Miata on everyones *** because the guy can drive. And then a guy in a GTR who holds everyone up in the chicanes and S's and then stomps on it in the straight away. Learn to drive and about the car characteristics. |

@ op -- if you do end up acquiring the z, I feel that considering your young age, the safest mod for you to consider would be the washer mod. I don't know what the hp gains are but from what I have heard they seem to be quite impressive.

2) Don't do the washer mod.. And I am the king of going cheap. P.S there aren't hp gains. Who do you hear from?

There's probably some naturally aspirated Z's outside of this forum that have really high numbers. The JUN concept car has 380 HP. I'm wondering if there are any setups out there that are in the 400 range. 400 HP naturally aspirated Z revving to 8k RPM would be delicious.
