It's not the 70's. Break-in procedures are simply antiquated. Most high-performance engines are run to redline before they are even installed in the cars at the factory. (A mass-produced engine like the VQ is probably not however)

I'll follow the instructions in the manual, thanks. My guess would be that there's a reason they put them in there. "How to break in an engine" is a debate that will never die.
