Then I went online to see what was the deal? 100+ similar complaints. I avoid that place like the plague.
Thats exactly what they did with me. Online price said $31.5k. I walk in and they give me an offer on my altima. Basically paid off, no negative equity and i say deal. Bring me the paperwork for the Z and it says 35k on it. I bring up the ad online and their response is "Oh well that price is for 1st time buyers with no trade-in." I asked if they really expected a first time buyer to buy the Z. Took me about 10 mins to realize how stupid they were. I asked them for the VIN and left. Went to Mckinney 2 days later and when they brought it over, matched VINs. They asked if I wanted to test drive it and I told em I already had 2 days earlier lol. Only had 22 more miles on it from when I left and I assume it was from the drive from Grapevine to Mckinney lol

Before the 370Z was out, one of my sons and I were out running errands on a Saturday afternoon. We were driving by a Nissan dealer, so we decided to cruise the parking lot and look at the 350Z's. Oh yeah, I was driving my 71 240Z.

We were in the lot, stopped and sitting in the Z, looking at the cars and a salesman approached. I cut him off immediately by saying we were just looking. He took a step back and said "You have a nice car" (or something like that). I said thanks and then he asked "Who makes it?".

Amazing. I have Datsun badges on each fender and one on the trunk lid, plus the Z emblems where they belong.

I told him it's a Nissan, badged as a Datsun. He said, "Really?". I said "Get away from me" and did a 3500 RPM clutch dump to drive the point home.

Some years back I was looking for a new car and had a salesman at a Dodge dealer tell me "We're not making a penny on this sale. I'm letting you have it at our cost so we can get your business."

I don't know why people care so much about the knowledge of the sales guy. They don't make any money. If they were paid well, you would have more knowledgeable people in that job.

Would you want to pay another $1-2k just so they can tell you details that you already know?

Yes, they are idiots. No, you will not pay for intelligence.

I went to test drive a 2009 used Z my wife found online at a dealership. They said an employee bought it the night before, and the listing wasn't even supposed to be posted. I said let me test drive one anyway and the used sales guy ended up making a brand new Z sale

Of course being used sales, he had no idea about any of the options, so I made sure to emphasize SPORTS PACKAGE specifically because I wanted to test SRM. I met him at the new showroom and they had a shiny red Z out front waiting ..... base model, I can tell immediately from the rims I let him get inside the passenger seat then half sit in the driver seat and point to the blank button where SRM would be. I said I need one that has an actual button here with a shift pattern on it. Like I said, it's the sports package.

( Click to show/hide )
Then I wait while the used car guy goes and searches and eventually finds a 2011 touring sport to test drive. He comes back without the car because he isn't comfortable pulling it out of the mess of car in their garage and there aren't any garage guys around I'm said show me where the car is and let's go. He reluctantly hands me the keys and we head up to the third story of a garage absolutely packed with new cars. Immediately I regret so boldly claiming I could maneuver this vehicle out of the spot. It is backed into the end spot immediately adjacent to the drive going down to the next level - I basically have to u-turn immediately, but there is absolutely no room whatsoever I analyzed the area for a few minutes and decided it was possible. Then I get in the car and go I CAN'T SEE $HIT!! It took about 8 times each back and forth and I got out of the car twice lol but I got it out finally and it was probably great practice getting to know the car Then we went on a fun test drive, though of course the guy didn't know how to turn off SRM. We negotiated a good price on a sport package base found at a dealership in Oklahoma and they sent me home in that red base Z as a loaner while they acquired our Z. I went home later that night and found that you have to hold down the button briefly to turn off SRM - on this forum of course

Salesmen can make good money, unfortunately in most cases, it does not take knowledge to sell a car. It does take someone personable, aggressive and willing to F@ck everyone else to make the deal. Whether it be the customer or his coworkers. They are like sharks. I used to sell cars a while back, I sucked. I was too nice, knew a lot, but if they didn't want to buy the damn car today, why the hell should I be forced to take them to see my manager? Age didn't help either. Most were put off because I was 22-23 at the time, they thought I was too young and couldn't have possible known about cars, safety, etc... I had a partner I would have to call over and soften them up, send them back to me so I can build rapport with them. I could never promise anything other than sticker before getting them to the table. When there, the managers refused to give me any information besides what numbers they threw at me and some coaching. A lot of customers just got up and left when they saw us start at sticker. Some managers work differently, but it was a PITA sometimes. Other times I would be fine, get them to the table and then the Manager would grab a veteran salesman to close the deal forcing me to cut my profit in half. Often times I only made $50, on average, maybe a few hundred. At the most, I think I banked $800. Some guys made over $1,000 on single deals. Knowing what I know now and working in that business, I don't want to ream the salesman through the coals, but I can read a con artist and a liar. When I finally bought mine, the guy knew I knew more than he did, the only thing he had to truly work were the numbers. He sold my Wife her Maxima, and me my Z.

Took my car in for the innitial oil change and while I was waiting a newer sales rep remebered me and started talking about brake work he was watching. He showed me a banjo bolt from the GT-R brakes and said and I quote "be careful with your Z brakes, the banjo bolts crack easy and they are $50 a pop. Your car has 3 per caliper."
I got up and walked away.......

Whenever I was test driving Z's before I bought mine I was down in VA and had a sales rep who I could barely understand. He knew nothing about the car and wasn't tryin to let me test it. My cousin and I being slightly clever and hustlers pulled a fast one on him. My cousin said I was a big time musician and he was my manager (believable based on the way I dress) and the dude was oh ok here's the keys and let me an my cousin take it right off the lot haha

I have to agree that bad customers don't help, but, from where I sit, the biggest problem is the adversarial nature of buying/selling cars. Instead of having a set, take-it-or-leave-it price, you are forced to haggle. The salesperson naturally wants to make as much as possible; some are more devious than others to attain that goal.

I don't know what the solution is, the higher the price of an item, the more room there is for differences in prices, so it becomes a haggling game. And set pricing didn't seem to work for that car company I can't even remember the name of now.

I don't mind a salesperson trying to upsell - that's their job. It's when they start lying that I get pissed and walk off. Luckily, there are some honest ones out there. When you find one, make sure you return the favor and treat them right.

I don' get car sales people not knowing their product... U have like 8 total new products to know at factory sponsored dealership and if u don't know **** about a single one, i won't buy from u. Shows u don't care about doing your job correctly. Hell the basic brochure will tell u what u need to know about that vehicle
