This makes about as much sense as most of your posts here on other topics..
i think what the other guy tried to say is when tuner companys have no competition they will raise their price. but now that nissan has an cooler that covers warrranty they lower the price. that shows how much profit they make.

Each one is $780 option. It "must" installed by the dealer to be covered
under warranty! I'm not sure on labor costs but i would expect around $345.
I know outside the dealership the coolers going for $480 at stillen now.
Bim sure its because now they have to compete with the part now being
Warranteed by nissan.
It just goes to show how much these tuner companies rape u when there's no
Competition.
Well; don't worry about how much profit tuner companies make; I suspect we aren't far from the day when some bureaucrat will be dictating to every company how much "profit" is "fair" and appropriate.

Until big-brother steps in to save us all, if you really feel tuner companies are rapping you you certainly have the option of not giving them your patronage.

How about this...

No one post anything about oil temps or coolers until you have a Nissan warranty-covered oil cooler installed by the dealer in your car. Then post a big thread headline so everyone knows and this issue will finally RIP.

Most people on here install an aftermarket intake, exhaust, suspension, etc. that are not covered under warranty...why are people so concerned about the warranty coverage of an oil cooler?

The issue people are concerned about is that they might have some minor unrelated engine problem down the line, say a VVEL problem or a sealing problem, and Nissan will take one look at the car and say "You have an aftermarket oil cooler attached to the engine, therefore we're denying any warranty claim on engine repairs", on the basis that the aftermarket oil cooler could have had some malfunction that led to poor oiling which led to the failure. They would be ******** to do so, as it's easy to verify that the oil cooler is working properly, and a properly working oil cooler helps protect the engine. But after the GT-R mess nobody trusts them not to be ******** on warranty issues.

Edit: I'll pre-empt the standard replies:

Yes, the Magnusson-Moss Act is on your side here, in that legally they do have to prove that the oil cooler caused the problem. However, time and legal fees are on their side. They can still say "you're screwed", and then you have to pony up for a legal battle with them, which might cost more than the repair and take forever to resolve.

If I recalled correctly, it's $780 parts + $480 (give or take a few) for labor.

Can't you just build your own oil cooler kit for under 300?
I think I can get one for around 260.

Damn...so SUPPOSEDLY, you can get factory installed coolers covered under warranty for over 1 grand. HAAAAAA. How big is this dealership anyways? Even if a dealer offered me warranty, i wouldn't trust a dinky dealership for if they were to go under, you would have paid 1k for an oil cooler and STILL be screwed. I think since for the most part Nissan won't be doing anything in the very near future about this, it's just a much more hassle free to install your own at a MUCH cheaper cost and remove the cooler if engine related warranty issues arise.

+1!

I do not know others that installed a oil cooler in a 350Z (VQ3.5DE engine) that ever had a oil temp/engine failure in either NA or FI. I do not know of any 3.7 engine failures due to oil temps causing engine failure yet other than the "limp mode" issue.

I agree that the $1K price of the cooler including install is high but you shouldn't have to worry about the dealership going under. As long as you take it to a Nissan dealer, Nissan Corporate covers the warranty not the individual dealerships.

Dunno about that when it's a case by case scenario where one specific dealer said they'll cover it by their good will and Nissan corporate said they will not. It will most likely give you the runarounds.

Well it is to my understanding that the option is covered ONLY as a dealer install
This is confirmed by a REP at Don Davis Nissan. Maybe its only the dealership n they have the option
Of covering I dunno. But misinformation is not wat I'm giving.
Just call nissan if ur not sure. I will too. I have my complaint number
From my response l received from nissan 3 months ago concerning the oil cooler
Issue n I won't own this car for another 3 months.
Have any of u done that? If u don't know for sure? Call n use the complaint
Number so they know ur gripe instantaneously n will brief u.
But as far as my dealership is concerned I know I have been quoted.
"You get it installed with us and its covered.
That kind of mod done outside of nissan will void warranty"
Those were exact words.
Not to mention I read it in 2 magazines b4 I confirmed it.
