I do the same, coffee and donuts. I'll go out of my way to make sure the techs (the people who do the work) receive it because the bastard sales guys will take it all if you leave the stuff with the service advisor.

I know from working in similar business, a simple coffee goes a long way.

No, I do not tip my service adviser. However if he goes to bat for me on anything I will make sure that his name is mentioned to the right people.

Yeah if they do a good job I'll fill out those service cards/participate in those customer satisfaction surveys you get sometimes. I don't tip though that's crazy talk.

I don't tip. They constantly try to take more money, fix what ain't broke, and nickle and dime me to death.

Screw them.

I am nice, I never set a time table for minor services, and I treat them with respect, but that is as far as it goes

Think of it this way...they are basically your 'servant' for a half-hour or more. How would you feel after an hour of serving someone and getting payed $5 total for it. A 15%-20% tip really isn't that much. I know a lot of people that run restaurants. Always be nice to people the bring or cook your food...ALWAYS!

OP, there is no need to tip the advisor. It might even be insulting because some might consider themself as more white collar. I'd tip the tech actually working on the car if they did a really good job. Buy the service advisor guys donuts or something if they really helped you out.
Don't get me wrong. I know my remark was blunt. But I do tip and well at that. I was aplling that if they work for it sure but if they are flat out just doing the very minimum then no I won't let a tip just cause. The other I had to ask three times for a refill even after she came to the table. So she needs to be more aware of what's needed.

And to add to that I hate the fact when you go somewhere and one person takes your drink order, one for main course, and another person brings it out to you. What? Then the hole time you'll have others refill your drink. In that case who am I tipping? All of them? I don't think so.

I don't tip at the dealership

When I take my car to an independent garage for work (I go to an Import performance shop more than the dealership) I tip the guys working on my car. They often refuse but I force them to take it!

Or if I got to a wheel shop fore tires to be changed, I'll tip those guys

Actually...at the dealership, only person I tip is the Curtesy van driver if they drop me off somewhere if I am not waiting for my car

I always try to pick nicer advisors by looking at reviews online or through friends referrals before I go to a new dealership. So most of them are great except for those BMW guys. Those are really pushy and recommend tons of unnecessary stuff.

I don't tip them but I give them gift cards, bottles of wine, etc on special occasions like Thanksgiving, Christmas. Sometimes I just give them baseball tickets when I can't make it to the games.

I never even considered tipping at a dealership...

The pizza and coffee is a good idea for the service techs.

I think the pizza thing is a great idea. I'm gonna buy pizza for my guy on Fri I think. They did me a huge freaking favor fixing my key fob issue over the past 2 weeks.

I avoid dealer service departments like the plague. No, I do not tip the Black Death.

I give my sales rep tips...

Last tip i gve him was "Don't pick up any wooden nickels".

The dealership makes a shytload on us. The sales reps job is to kiss your azz in your face while behind your back they need to find a way to overcharge. lol. I'm rapin' the dealer... not vice versa. At least wherever i can.

lol
