Thanks for the comparision

I had a 05 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart prior to my Z.

While I had an itch for a new car and the Subaru Imprezza/WRX was on my short list due to cost, I am a Z Fanboy easily...so had to go with my dream car, wouldn't have taken anything less

Definitely whats tempting about the WRX is the ease to increase power and that its already boosted. I totally get what you were trying to say when you were comparing the two.

It's not really about the power so much, although having a turbo does make it easier and i'm not far from Agile tuning which is pretty much an all Subaru shop which is cool if I wanted to go the full mod route. My point of the whole thread, or what I was TRYING to get across before people turned it into a who's faster war was the pros and cons and that even with the cons, the car is still very nice for me. There are multiple ways you can look at it. I did all the car research for my Mother years ago and she went with an 08 Altima. I was impressed with Nissan's fit and finish... if I wanted the BEST interior I would have gone GTI, but it's just FWD and though that's not bad in the snow.. AWD is just better. If I wanted faster then yeah, I might have gone STI or another Evo... but for 24,5 vs 34 or 36k the STI is really no faster until you're tracking the car. In a straight line the new STI is neck and neck with the WRX and they have run a stock WRX at 12.9 @ 104 mph which isn't bad considering the power output.

Like I said though.. I didn't get the car for that stuff. I got it for all of my daily driving, some fun driving, doing whatever else I need to do with the added room I have. Would I have kept the Z if I wouldn't have been trying to cut down on bills? Sure. Am I crushed that I traded it? Nope. I could have kept it, but having the Subaru allows me to have extra money at the end of the month which is always a plus.

Yeah, you're right.

I don't have any problem with this thread, I have a problem with you making slighting comments towards others for no reason. If they are not knowledgeable, then educate them in a well thought out and nice way.

I went the other way around. I traded in my 2008 STI for the 370z. I miss the AWD of the STI and overall how practical it was. Just recently I had to take a friend to the airport and her two suitcases barely fit. The interior of the 370 is far better than the STI, believe it or not so is the Bose stereo. Interior noise is about the same, my STI was tuned and had an exhaust and intake. On the hwy the STI always felt like it needed another gear even though it was a 6spd. At 80 I found myself wanting to shift, the 370 has a true 6th gear OD.

From a standstill my STI was definately faster but from a 60 mph punch I believe the 370 is faster. If I wanted something that was a monster the STI was the better platform. Guys are getting near 500hp on the stock motor with upgraded turbo/fuel its on a stock clutch and its realiable. Looks wise the 370z to me is slicker and feels higher end than the STI did. Sometimes I miss my STI but then other times I dont. Both are great cars IMO.

I was considering the STI, but after everything that I read when it came to comparing it to the WRX... it's not that much different for just street driving. Obviously if I were to do auto X or something like that the STI would be the obvious choice... i'm happy with the decision I made though and I save well over 100.00 a month on my payment which helps my wife and I to put onto other bills and pay them off quicker. They'll be other cars that come down the pike. Right now i'm perfectly happy though.

yeah the WRX is a great car too. I just happen to get an awesome deal on the STI at the time and when I traded it in for the Z 4 years later they gave me 28500 and I only originally paid 32500 for it new. YOu're goonna love the subie, they hold their value really well and the STI was nothing but realiable to me. YOu made a great choice!

I think I would have saved a little more for a EVO X GSR if I wanted AWD. It's a far better drivers car by all accounts vs. the STi and for those concerned with numbers it's a good bit quicker to. The only conceivable down side really to the EVO X is that its ride is a bit more harsh and interior not as nice arguably.

13.0@106 isn't far off the pace of the Mustang GT as far as the ET is concerned due to the AWD launch. But then again this doesn't matter much unless you race your daily drivers for a living. But again I'm not saying the WRX is a bad choice just that the EVO X GSR is probably a better bargain for not too much more money.

Oh and as far as modding the regular WRX doesn't have the same basically bullet proof 6MT transmission nor does it have the same sophisticated deferential's and so on. Many people seem not to understand that the STi is much more than just a more powerful version on the WRX.

The point being the WRX isn't going to be as mod friendly if you're into that type of thing and that there's a good reason for why some choose to pay more for an STi. The WRX may match / be slightly quicker to 60 / 1/4 mile due to gearing (5-speed requires 2 shifts to reach 60 vs. 3 shifts for the STi's 6-speed & 4 shifts vs. 5 shifts for the 1/4mile) but that's where the performance advantage ends.

Owned an X for 2 years. Its quick... but its heavy ... no folding rear seat... very tiny trunk.. gas mileage I can get better now, and buying a used one is like playing Russian rolet. If you can find one unmolested ... you're going to pay a whole lot more than I did for the wrx.
