With the wire cut there should be no more issues, just listen to see if you hear the noise for the next few starts and shut offs as long as you don't hear it then I wouldn't worry about it any more......... GL and hope it stays off!
to correct mysmelf, i was looking at the wrong fuse. my bad. i was thinking that couldnt be right it wouldnt have been making noise at all if the fuse has BEEN out. but no i cut the brown wire coming from the steering lock and *POOF* no more steering lock noises at all. and it starts and turns off fine. im still sketched out about driving it though. went home for lunch and made my wife drop me off back at work

anyway i could always hear the steering lock working when i got in and out of the car so to make sure i disabled it, i cut the brown wire as suggested in one of the forums. no more noise of the lock when im getting in and out of the car and it shuts of and starts fine.

so i still need to get a back up steering lock JUST IN CASE. but thank god i got that thing to unlock one more time so i could disable it. im still not wanting to take the car far away from home for a while just to make sure its good to go. any questions just send a PM.
You definitely did NOT look for the right fuse then. It cannot be gone if the lock was still working. See the pic where the 10A fuse (bottom left, forth from bottom) has been pulled....

Your car is fine now you've cut the brown wire. But make sure you wrapped the ends cuz it carries voltage thru that line.
The fuse pull is indeed beside the battery, the full instructions are in Baers thread.

As I posted a few back, my steering lock mechanism failed and it's a 40th. I am also having the fuel gauge sender problem.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of the steering lock other than causing problems for us? If you remove the fuse or cut the brown wire, what is the worst that can happen?

It's something you should take care of if you have one still, it is not needed and it will cause you more frustration and $ in the end if you don't get rid of it ASAP!

The 40th is no different then any other Z though it's the same car just with a few add on features. The steering lock is the same rev as any other so it will be just as prone to the problems as any other 09, 10 or 2011 Z. So again I would suggest getting that F*CKING stupid lock taken care of before you find yourself stranded like some others have been!

Mine took its dive on Friday last week :/

25225 when failed
2010 40th Anniversary
Listed as "steering lock assembly has internal failure, replaced steering lock assembly"

Thankfully I am still under warranty! My dealership was prepared I guess, because they got it in around noon and I had it back at 4.

Guess I can be added to the list as the 2nd 40th to experience this issue. I just recently found this thread so maybe someone could tell me....are there many 2010 models that have had this happen?
