Took more trial snaps this am and motored the Z afterwards. Man I luv this car. :D
Followed by more snaps in higher intensity daylight trials. Will see how I sucked later. :icon17:

:icon18:  yah, they look like silencers for sure. :p sounds great.

so this am i tried the neutral density filter and circular polarizer. for today's lighting the ND made my wheels a shade or two too dark. circular polarizer worked great. also played with the apeture-priority mode. for newbs like me i think it might be best to keep it in auto-mode and learn lighting/exposure first. (been studying the playback data on the nikon software picture by picture seeing wat the differences are).

my next series of trials is to turn the car to properly light it and get a hang of the circular polarizer where to focus the reflection to get overall lush without making the glass reflection look werd. thanks again mr.onzedge. :p

Ken I think this shot looks pretty good, but I must say...I'm not a photog.... I like the angle of this one and think the exposure looks pretty good.

Thanks, yah that image looks pretty good on my droidx which has a nice high reso display, but looks like a regular point and shoot on my notebook monitor. Its got too much overall haze which I can control better with the circular polarizer I tried today. :p

happytheman 07-17-2011 05:52 PM

Took her through a drive through today where the dude at the drive through window said "That's the blue-est 350z I've ever seen in my life." :)

I didn't have the heart to correct him on the oversight. I just graciously accepted the compliment and kenchaned on!

hahahaha, :shakes head: but  and kenchan'ed on in style. :icon17:

i read and read and read and read several camera forums :eekdance: and i think my tiffen uv filter and circular polarizer is low quality per everyone's comments. so i ordered their recommendation of B+W's today along with a nikon hood (too bad it's no CF!:icon17: ) for outdoor shots.

will compare and if the tiffens are crap, off they go back to the store. :ugh2:

What I did today with my Z was drive it to Sears Point and take the Grand Prix Masters course. Son of a gun, it was fun. It's a Formula 3, with a sequential gear box, 300HP, 1250 pound, uncomfortable, fun as hell car. Follow the instructor and follow the line.

On the way home I found myself seriously exceeding the limit before I noticed anything was askew. Later on a turn I take every day of my life, I went into a four wheel slide, recovered and began to think something was wrong with the car when I realized and told myself "Slow the "F" down you S.O.B.". And I did. I hope I calm down by tomorrow when I drive to work.

That's just awesome!
I would love to get some seat time in an open-wheel car again.

That sounds like a blast. Many years ago, I took the two day Bondurant class when his school was still at Sears Point. I drove one of my z's (my first 71) the two days and drove home each night (I was living in Walnut Creek).

I distinctly remember being exhausted each day and driving like a maniac on my rides home each night.

While you're out vacationing I'm learning apeture-priority and exposure compensation.
Took like 50 shots last night of my keychain jiji cat to see how I suck. :p

Sorry I checked out over the weekend but we were crazy busy. Do I break any rules if I try and get caught up in one post?

Ken- car looks great and congrats on the delivery of your new toy. Shots look great. You will be learning new crap for years. :)

azn- rig shot look really good! Building a rig is on my list of things to do.

edge- carbs/mix gas and air... good stuff. I had a 914 with dual downdrafts and boy were they a pain to tune, but worth the effort. :driving:

Nitex- looks and sounds great!

Ok, now on to what I did over the weekend. Cars and Coffee Williamsburg Saturday morning at the Williamsburg Winery (I am one of the coordinators) and a Z/G cruise along the Colonial Parkway afterwards. Just a few shots. I will post more in the Media Gallery later...

What did I do with my Z....

hmmm...NOT A THING! It's been in the body shop for 2 weeks now getting a bumper repaired after a fender bender. I'm having severe Z withdrawals. Every Z i spot on the road whether a 350z or 370z makes me want to be in it. I am currently driving a 2012 Ford focus 4 SEL. I like some Ford vehicles but i'm not digging this one at all. I just want my Z back.

kenchan 07-18-2011 10:27 AM

beach- thanks and your shots look good  ... are you using circular polarizer expecially for the first and last shots? :yum: looks like you had a good time.

looks like silver is a hard color to get the exposure correct for cheap LCD viewing as it appears the high exposure area gets washed when viewing in smaller shots...

hope i can get more shots in this weekend using the exposure compensation. i have a new circular polarizer coming to me this week along with a hood to compare as well. :p

:( sorry to hear. yah the new focus looks pretty decent for an econobox but i too am TIRED of driving such cars. had to take the FitSport this am to drive the kids to summer camp, drop off the wife at her client's place, etc.

not a good day for kenchaning today. can't even kenchan such car... it's like a super-chef making some 3min cup noodles. :ugh2:

BeachZTT 07-18-2011 11:20 AM

Thanks Ken... PM me grasshopper and I will enlighten you (no pun intended).

MarkeZ- very sorry to hear. I was without my TT for about a year during my build. Fortunately, my wife had a N/A Z32 that I drove to get me by. Best of luck on a speedy recovery!

Thanks G2Z! I shoot a Nikon D3. The lens I shot Sat was a 28-300mm Nikkor VR with the VR OFF and just a UV filter. I seldom us the VR feature as I find it softens some of my detail. I shoot RAW and use Lightroom for all of my editing.

I found the same thing with my kit lens when VR is on, the images are slightly softer. Then again, I find that many Nikon DSLRs are set to take slightly softer images than many of the Canons too.

Took a break from my day off domestication to kenchan 25 miles out of the way to go to the Batteries Plus store and pick up some watch batteries for my hygrometers. Turned a 15 minute errand into a hour long joy ride.
I'm really diggin' the way the car feels with the Swifts, although I've noticed that the rear end now makes a lot of clunky noises of bumps and I'm developing more rattles in the hatch area.

sounds like fun!

hummm... are the springs rubbing against the spring carrier or something? would it help to turn the spring by quarter of a turn or not? ive noticed on some cars the spring rubs the carrier if not oriented a certain way.

BeachZTT 07-18-2011 01:35 PM

I haven't noticed any noises or clunking since I installed mine. I believe I twisted mine into the pocket to ensure they were seated but it has been a while. Definately no hatch rattles... :tiphat:

SPOHN 07-18-2011 01:50 PM

Hmmm...
Heeeyyyyy, wait a minute! :rofl2:

I'll take another look at the spring orientation, but I was pretty OCD about making sure everything was lined up.
It's sort of a hollow, flat sounding thud on sharp bumps.

also check the torque of your spare tire clamp. :D
