Just got my GTR switch and TI shift knob in the mail from TheNismoShop. Probably will put off putting them in till tomorrow when I do my exhaust and HPS tubes at work.

Fatal- looks exciting. :D

Hey kenchan, first off the ings look great!

Well I took the car to another alignment shop and got the toe dialed into zero on all four corners. The camber is not wild like before meaning the dealership's rachk was ouit of calibration. Took it on a run this last Sat thru the canyon and.....maybe I am not used to zero toe on all fours but it was squirming a bit in the rear and the fronts felt wierd hitting bumps in the curves. You had some concerns running zero in the rears. Should I try running some toe in on the rears? I am not the best describing what is what without any proper track driving instructions and schooling so I apologize up front if I am not sure what I am supposed to be looking for. I only had about 200 miles on these new RE-11's. Could it be the tires have not scrubbed in yet?

Here are my current specs.

New alignment as of 5/20/11

Fr Left -1.6
Fr Right -1.5
Toe Left 0.00
Toe Right 0.00
Total Toe 0.00
Steer Ahead xx.xx

Rr Left -1.3
Rr Right -1.2
Toe Left 0.00
Toe Right 0.00
Total Toe 0.00
Thrust Angle 0.00

Zforce- thanks on the Ings. :D

Yah, the car actually toes out as the suspension travels in its programmed path. The toe-in setting offsets this so that u don't toe-out as much. Toe -out is like youre funneling in all bumps and road conditions for your car to digest while toe-in is like youre deflecting them to decide wat u want to digest and not overwelm stability.

Squirming comes from tires. New tires have more tread so that much rubber the car needs to twist in order to change the tire's direction. This is one reason why race cars in dry use slicks. Max contact patch and no tread to squirm. :)

Why are you running no toe in the rear?

kenchan 05-28-2011 09:12 AM

red- he wants to save his RE11's rubber while driving on street.

Hey thanks for the additional 101 in alignment and toe. What would be a good setting for toe for the rears? I know it's a loaded question, because tire wear versus performance. A toe setting to start out with to test, which I can always change weekely (with my life time free alignments).

I would do 0.05 to 0.10 degrees per side if I had wear in mind. Id go a bit more aggressive for my car tho.. 0.10 to 0.15 per side. I think the factory setting is pretty aggressive. At 4000 miles my factory tires were about half done. :)

nynhex 05-28-2011 05:37 PM

Installed my Nismo TI shift knob today. However, the stock knob was a casualty of war.

I would stick with factory toe specs for the rear if you can.

bummer. I've been in a yaris all day...so it's even worse here:roflpuke2:

I'm actually thinking about picking up (another) DD, since the fiancee might be taking my subaru. Thinking about a Fit--how you like it?

SmoothZ 05-28-2011 08:00 PM

My Z was driven to the next state, but I wasn't the driver. It was stolen....

by my wife for her book club meet. I was left with the minivan.

OK yah vs a yaris my day was definitely better! :D I spent pretty much the entire day in my music room and doing laundry on occasion so I was not bored at all.

The Fit packs a big bang for the buck. Its super slow in the hot weather when u have passengers on board. If u get the MT its actually pretty fun to drive. The AT sucks on it as far as any type of fun driving. For most folks its AT will do fine.

You should buy my 08 (5MT). :D

Why you selling?

Also-- music rooms= instruments?

EazyD 05-28-2011 08:08 PM

Washed, clayed, and waxed by myself for the first time!

The only reason why I got my 08 was because my second kid was born and I needed extra cargo space than what the 06 civic-ex I had offered. But now the little guy can walk all on his own and get in out of the car on his own, no more need. I'm using my G most of the time unless I need to carry cargo.. I have another 09 Fit my wife uses so I'm covered.

Oh btw, unlike most folks car with kids, my cars are super clean inside. I don't let them eat inside the car taught them not to kick the seatbacks not to step on the sills...etc its all in the teaching.

Music room = yep Yamaha CP1, Roland VPiano, FantomG8. :) and my racks and stuff.

Nice! The butter smooth finish feels good, huh? :D
one thing to watch out though.... miguiars soft blue was too firm and swirled my Z's finish. I recommend using the super soft *****'* clay. Its a yellow super soft mud like clay that does not haze the Z's finish. Use disposable gloves when u handle it.

Looks great Nyhex, but I am curious about your removal methodology that made the stock knob collateral damage?

Thanks - I used whatever clay came with the Meguiar's $40 starter kit from Amazon. Did this after using Optimum No Rinse. The clay is white and two bars came in a black plastic container. Individually wrapped. I used tons of Meguiar's Ultra Quik detailer and an orange microfiber from some brand from Target to wipe off :shakes head: - but no swirls. The one awesome microfiber I got in the Meguiar's kit was used up during the wash. I'll post some pics tomorrow maybe. They are on my Facebook already, you guys can friend me.

kenchan 05-29-2011 10:39 AM

EazyD- as long as u don't wipe dry and forcefully your hazing should be at a minimum using target towels.

Most terry towels sold today are just as bad. Good MF towels are worth the investment if you're serious about detailing but for most folks its overkill. :)

happytheman 05-29-2011 10:45 AM

I didn't mention this yesterday, but I came out of the house to see my wife washing her Xterra with my MF cloths (including the wheels and tires)! D'oh!

Time to get some new ones and keep 'em separated (insert obligatory Offspring tune here).
