Trying to decide if we are going to drive the Z to NoVA today(GMU). Our daughter has to have her wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow and is working a summer internship up near school. We are going to stay tonight and take her to her appt tomorrow. Z or Xterra....

We took the to roadster our for frozen yogurt last night. :driving:

Passed 15k and am now getting the service alert. She will go to the dealership this week.

Thanks Beach... your edit on Nitex's shot looks awesome. What did you do and how did you do it???

I use Adobe Lightroom for most of my editing. Lots of things you can do but most of what I did in that shot was exposure control.

Here is a shot with exposure change in different areas so that you don't loose all of the detail in the shadows...

I do have control over this with PASM modes on the NEX 5.. I guess i just need to keep tweaking it.

You should be able to change your metering/exposure compenstaion so that have less exposure. I almost always shot at -.3 or -.7 in sunlight on any Nikon body.

i found out that there's really no magic to raw. if the exposure is f-ked up it's just as bad as doing jpg editing using levels, saturation, and some sharpening, brightness recovery. honestly my goal is to hit the shot right from the camera and do very minimal editing so im going to just use jpeg-normal format for now. it's good enough for me. :)

I almost always shoot raw (especially when shooting for a client) because it gives me greater ability to recover in the event that really blow a shot. I also find that if I am shooting a loot of zoom, you get a lot more detail which is helpful when you are cropping in close for an ultra tight shots... say soccer or wildlife.

I changed the time in my Z as it was in hour behind, but why can't we have the speed instead of the clock, I hate that and miss that with my past Z's.

kenchan 07-31-2011 10:53 AM

Motored my Z and QD'ed afterwards. :D was a good drive. :p
Cleaned up the engine bay as well. I hate dust in there.

Yeah TT i need a better editing software. This sony stuff is.. ok. This was my first attempt at editing a photo, and im sure it shows :icon17:

So overall i like the shots but they are still abit soft. It is what it is for a mirrorless compact with SLR sensor/lens. Im still working on apeture, metering and so on, but im wondering if its a lost cause with this camera.

I bought the 2.8/16 to see if it made any difference over the kit lens 3.5-5.6/18-55. Most of these were taken with the new 16mm.

Problem however is a mysterious red dot keeps showing up in my shots. Could this be the editing software? I tried to get some air in there to see if it was dust. Anythoughts? (see the first shot front bumper drivers side, second shot lower left hand corner of my door panel, and in the same general location of all the shots.)

Those red dots almost look like street lights, other than that if they are not street lights then it must be the camera as editing software will not do that.

Yeah, i see the 2 street lights in the door/fender join you mention. Its hard to see in these compressed shots. Its definately the camera.. And its going back today.

In for humming bird shots. I suppose we can start a DSLR thread in the photography forum. :D

FromG2Z 07-31-2011 01:24 PM

Beach, thanks for the tips... Adobe lightroom eh... It looks like you can adjust exposure in certain areas only and not the whole pic? If so, that is very cool. I use Capture NX2, but I didn't think you could do sectional exposure adjustment. I might have to get lightroom...

Tripples, I really like the front picture showing the wheels and the hood. The hood looks soooo good on your car.

I added the H&R DRS spacers to the front today. 15mm set up all the way around. I probably would have been happy with 10mm. What do you think?

that's wat the pro's like Beach uses.

for me, im using the watered down version called Photoshop Element9. does basically everything you mentioned (you would use layers and paint) plus the basic photoshop editing. :p go to youtube and search photoshop element 9. some lady does some demo's with a sunflower which is pretty impressive.

for me i only use the level and highlight adjustment, saturation, sharpen if i screwed up and shook the camera a tad. :D

also play around with gimp. it's free and does basically the same things. :)

kenchan 07-31-2011 04:47 PM

Looking great Everyone! No Z for me today. In the waiting room at the dentist outside Fairfax waiting for my daughter. We left the roadster at home because it was storming. Fortyfive minutes into the trip it cleared up and has been beautiful ever since. I will check out the DSLR thread when I have a little time.
