Drove to GNC, drove back home, took the "scenic" route. :driving:

did a QD and noticed a storm coming in so I dug my car cover out of the moving boxes and got it on just in time for the sprinkling to start. Let me say it isn't much fun trying to put on a car cover in the dark by yourself in winds gusting to 20-25mph.

Here's the wrinkly new cover. :D. Its a perfect fit, no issue over the Mines spoiler extension, fujimura rear diffuser, or ings front splitter. :p. Plenty of clearance for the craftsquare mirrors too so no issue.

After the test fit it went into the bag with very little effort.

the dust cover i bought for the G year ago takes forever to get it back in the bag... (too big and clumsy)

yah, it can keep up with most V6's out there with some driving technique. the car is very fun to drive...but the electronics on MINI's in general is wat kinda kills the fun with the warranty crap...and the fit and finish on the exterior panels is like tolerance of 1cm. :rofl2:

Today.... I had to find a way to procrastinate and NOT do my informative speech for class tonight so I decided to try to fix my exhaust leak.

I looked at my car today thinking at least I still her after ending a nearly four year relationship with my girlfriend. It sucks!

christian370z 10-27-2011 11:17 AM

Nice footloose! I need to figure out my exhaust leak too and it sounds like it is coming from the same area your leak was.

SPOHN 10-27-2011 11:21 AM

I think I heard a hiss sound from mine the other day. Probably why it seems louder. But I love that.

Footloose301 10-27-2011 11:27 AM

The hiss when letting off the throttle is normal. Mine you could hear when accelerating and it was so obnoxious during a cold start. I finally moved out of my parents house and got a townhouse with a two car garage last week, and I'm sure my neighbors hated the exhaust leak more than I did. I had to do something about it.

Footloose301 10-27-2011 11:32 AM

Also, last night I noticed that Sutherlin Nissan had a used 40th for sale so I decided to see how dramatic my subtle mods stacked up against one completely stock. It made me appreciate my car and the work I've done.

Yea that's about when I heard it was when letting off the throttle. No biggie.

kenchan 10-27-2011 11:46 AM

looking good footloose and  for the exhaust leak fix.

i too like the subtle mods on my cars. :)

Apple's stock pays for my mods ;)

I put the cover on my car last night, it works really well

good to hear your cover's inline. i noticed on the quick silver instructions they say to put the front on first and rear last, but i always do the front at the end cause the front of the car is narrower and less bulky than the rear (less friction to the paint).

I always start with the mirrors, then rear, then front last.

cool, me too. im doing it right then.

then when i roll up, i pull up the front, then rear, fold the sides first towards the center of the roof (usually need to fold twice per side), then roll it from the back to the front with clean surface on the outside.

when the clean surface on the outside i can just pull out of the bag and place it on the car, unroll and wrap. ... good? :D

When I remove it I loosen the front, undo the mirrors, then I roll it to the back.

I never had a problem putting the cover on a dirty car, it didn't transfer the dirt from the car to the cover or anything like that. You don't need to only cover it after it's clean, you can cover it even if it's pretty dirty (but knowing you it will never get to that state ;))

huh, i'd be kinda worried about grit rubbing while placing the cover onto a dirty car, but heck you have more experience with covers so ok! :D hahaha.

on my Z i will only be placing it on during hibernation, so the paint will be fully clean and waxed. :p (maybe on rainy windy days i might put it on before opening the garage since it was so easy to put it on and off into the bag). :D

It swirls the dirt around and makes it look bad but it doesn't damage the paint from what I have seen.

Lucky you that you have a garage, I will make sure the house I buy has a really nice garage/driveway and I will have to hit you up for advice on what tools/work benches to buy

yah, im not much of a house person (or into gardening) but i knew i had to have a decent sized garage so i looked for one with a wide 2.5 car garage.
3 car garage would've been even better but again, im not into houses or gardening so i decided to just get the one i have now and pay it off quick.

wife and i are almost done paying it off... if it wasnt for the crappy economy we have enough cash to pay off the house today, but dont want to use part of the savings we built up just in case something happens to one of us.

i dont plan on moving up to a larger house any time soon either. my neighbors are very cool (very important), kids school and afternoon programs are very good, nice quiet community as long as my indian neighbor down the street with a green yaris leaves me alone :icon17:, etc.

You will be amazed at the money you will be stashing away once you pay off your house.

I can sympathize with your garage wishes. I just moved from a house with a 26 x 24 garage with a side work area of 8 x 8 to townhouse with a a 17 x 18 garage. Plus, I don't have a private driveway anymore.

At least the days of spending five hours a week (minimum) maintaining a 1.5 acre lot are over.

GaleForce 10-27-2011 02:24 PM

All this talk about car covers depresses me. My last run in the Z was yesterday, now it sits in it's stall. I still need to wash and correct it... then cover it up.
Is the Quicksilver good for dust prevention and indoor storage? Where is a good online place to purchase? I was looking at Block it 200 from CoverCraft.com. I know it's cheap but I figured I didn't need anything too fancy with it sitting in an insulated garage for the winter. What do you guys think?

B&W_Evader 10-27-2011 02:59 PM

I don't like covers... I'm one of those guys that think it'll do more damage than good. On the other hand, if you have a red car and it's out in the sun alot, I can see the need to keep the paint from faiding. I go for the fold-out windshield shade.

B&W_Evader 10-27-2011 03:01 PM

Found a new way to clear my ears after swimming today!

Take the onramp onto the highway really fast, the latteral g-force really helps. Felt the water come right out. Only worked on the left ear though. LOL

yah, im looking forward to the increase in my savings account. the thing about me is my dad (retired long time) is a house/garden/farm whore. :D hahaha. he owned several lux houses while he lived in the states and and guess who got to help keep them maintained on the weekends while i lived at my parent's place? yah, no thanks. while he paid me generously im not a gardener type, i hate mowing the grass, and i hate working with soil (aka little farm of his). :ugh2:

im perfectly happy with contractors doing my lawn and snow removal.

i can't speak for quicksilver yet as this is the first time trying it but it repells water unlike normal 'dust covers' so i wont have to worry about water seeping through the cover onto the paint like the cover i have for the G. my Z will be garaged but when i open the garage door to get my G out i know blowing snow will get all over the hatch area....so i wanted to get a cover to minimize water stains.
