How about National Z day to celebrate? I think it's a worthy cause!

Drove the dragon 4 times today. I even got video this time :D Makes 9 times running the dragon in a few weeks, unfortunately real life is calling the week after next.

I'll post up a link but it probably won't be until tomorrow sometime. Also due to me being an idiot, one camera only got 14 minutes or so because i forgot to clear the memory card beforehand.

@bx_superior - did you install the JDM tails?

LunaZ 09-30-2011 06:44 AM

After snapping the hatch interior panels in place and re-installing the hatch seal, he apparently thought that was done enough for an awesome pic.
The socket set and plastic covers laying on the driveway prove to us that it was a D.I.Y. job. The open hatch and door are just a bonus.

LunaZ 09-30-2011 07:57 AM

Installed my softer clutch helper spring while enjoying a cup of coffee before work.
To the guys who stated this is an easy 10 minute mod, I say what are you, 3 foot tall pygmy contortionists?!?!? I tried an assortment of crazy positions to try to get both of my arms and hands and at least one eye under the dash to depress the clutch pedal while trying to maneuver pins and c-clips and I can say that my back and neck will not be right for at least a few days.
Driving impressions later.

I forgot to take pics of my screwdriver and needlenose pliers, but you get the idea.

Last night G2Z and I with some help from a couple buddies put his old Invidia CBE on my Z. We also gave it her first oil change (Redline FYI).

Took the plunge and ordered some Di Noc yesterday. I've got a CF overlay set from CARID.com coming in next week that I may pick over and use the remainder as templates for the Di Noc.

I'm like Ken; much prefer the matte finish over the glossy polyurethane look. I'll definitely be doing the B pillars and door switch plates. My biggest challenge will be the NAV/radio/HVAC face plates.

I do know that I'll be ordering the gearshift surround from A.J at CarbonSignal at a minimum. If they made an overlay for the NAV/radio/HVAC faceplate, life would be easier, just a little more expensive.

My biggest problem is my "OCDness" for things to be perfect. Knowing that is a longshot for me, I prefer to leave things to the pros when I can.

I'll keep you guys posted on my progress. I'm sure you can all use a good laugh every now and then.

That all sounds cool. :tiphat:

kenchan 09-30-2011 10:50 AM

gurney- sounds good, but that CarID CF is crap. i bought a kit a year or so ago thinking i would use it as a template. no go, returned it. CF they used is like super thin weave steelwool too. :D hahahaha.

i will NEVER buy from CarID again. their store sucks big time. was a flawed order on their end, cancelled, yet shipped, they charged me for return freight. wtf

onzedge 09-30-2011 11:15 AM

Today -- playing hookey from work, treating the 370 to a complete wax job with Meguiar's Ultimate, vacuuming the house, packing for San Diego, charging camera batteries, posting on the forum, etc. Tonight, we are headed to a bizarre event. A good friend (my ex-wife's wife) checked out (the permenant kind and by her own hand) a year ago today -- so there is a party in her honor. They say it will be the best party that the guest of honor does not get to attend. It should be weird and heavily populated with the flannel-wearing diesel dyke crowd.

I need to write a book or something.

Dang, I almost forgot...

Happy Friday, Mr. Kenchan! :tiphat:

B&W_Evader 09-30-2011 11:16 AM

Man I want to do the Oil Cooler but I know my wife would have a $hit fit. She was giving me hell about a freeking spring coming in the mail. (clutch helper spring) WTF, I used to restore piles and track them.

I can just hear her over my shoulder nagging me straight during the entire job about whatever stupid thing enters her mind. And when that front bumper comes off... it'll be time to put the earphones on with some music blasting.

Ken - yea, I read your write-up on the Di Noc thread and saw that about the CarID stuff. I doubt if I use any of it now, but was thinking it would help with some of the cut outs. It was $100 on sale, so if it helps avoid ordering some of the real CF stuff - while gorgeous, is expense - it will pay for itself, plus I might be able to help out some of the guys around the Houston area.

BTW - your write-up was great, and will be a big help!

While my wife is pretty good about things, seeing the front bumper off my car would launch her into the stratosphere! She wouldn't say anything other than to say I was nuts. At that point any eff-ups on my part would be fatal!

hahahaha, yah, i lost like $20 on that ordeal for their stupid mistake. not a huge loss, but rather had charburgers and cheeze fries with that and change to spare. :yum:

i think the best and cheapest way to make the template is to just trace the outline with a piece of paper using a stensil. also if you're planning on doing the door switch covers, it goes much faster if you just remove the switch module from the door and just wrap it. :) you will need to do a quick window reset which is like 5-10 sec of window all the way rolled down, hold...then up all the way, hold another 5-10 sec. done.

Lol, no but thanks for askin. I lost my estimate paperwork a few weeks ago and was slow working on getting another copy. Just got another copy this week. Also, I went to see the autobody guy yesterday. He says Im gonna need a new hood and the whole front end painted! Im actually kinda happy, my hood and bumper are BEYOND rock chipped up. Itll be nice to have that taken care of. Now only my sideskirts should look like crud. The guy fixin it is a little booked so its gonna be a couple more weeks till its done. Its such a minor fvck up, I mean you cant even tell anything is wrong if you dont stare at it. Crazy that its gonna take as much work as it is to get it back to normal.

Alchemy 09-30-2011 04:39 PM

Here is a pic I just snapped cause I never posted a pic of what happend. The hood has that little crease on it. The bumper is also tweaked toward the passenger side a little, less than a 1/4 inch. You can see how its pushed right up against the passenger side light. Not bad for hittin a deer at about 45 mph

Alchemy- wow, that is painful to look at but yah, you really dodged that deer with your lightening fast reflexes! I was expecting much bigger damage. :D. Most deer impacts results in caved in hoods and shattered glass.

definitely get the front clearbra-ed after the repaint. :D I'd give it 3-4 wks for the paint to cure first. :p

So after cleaning the G, i checked psi on the Z. She is ready to motor tomorrow am! :D

Whats the rough cost of getting the clear bra??

It depends on how much of the car you cover. Around here, a "bikini" (which covers the nose, forward facing parts of the fenders, mirrors and hood goes for around $800.00 installed. A full bra is more dollars.
