Just installed the new shifter knob. I didn't realize it until now, but Nissan installed a banana on my shifter instead of the typical OEM shift knob...

https://charlest.zenfolio.com/img/s/...93498536-5.jpg

I tried everything possible to not destroy the stock knob, but after the first good twist with a rubber grip + microfiber cloth + monkey wrench, the leather on one side pulled out of the seam. Dammit! After that happened, I said f#&k it and just went straight wrench to knob with no mercy.

Good thing I like the finish and feel of the new knob!

I tried and failed so hard. Got my shop to do it... the amount of loctite used was rediculous

Woke up early and deicided to purchase some transmission and Differential oil and found the exhaust I've been eyeing for year for some 400$ off on sale.
Ordered soon as I did.

Attempted, install failed. Everything connected to back up bulb correctly, but, no power is going to the transmitter and thus, no picture on the wireless display. The back up bulb and stop light are working but, could not get it to send power to the transmitter. Went back step by step and everything connected tight and correctly, I think.

Asking a fellow Austinite for 30 minutes of their time to do quick troubleshoot and make it work. Hopefully it is not a bad transmitter.

Prior to connecting the power wire did you put the car in reverse and verify that you're tying into the correct reverse light wire?

Yes sir, and the camera wires still connected to it. When I put the car in reverse, the bulb lights up but no power goes to the transmitter. Hope to find local member to do quick troubleshoot.

I assume you have a good ground also?

The only ground wire was to the negative cable of the bulb which is connected too along with the positive wire to the positive wire of the back up bulb.

Thanks, I am sure is something simple that I am missing or the t-connectors provided are not making a good connection even though they look like they have a complete connection.

That can be so frustrating on something that should be so easy.

CRiZO 09-30-2018 05:54 PM

When I had my HU installed, they asked if I wanted the factory rear camera to show up on it (instead of in the mirror), they'd just have to adjust the voltage somehow but said it was easy.

I realize I have no idea what I'm talking about lol, just a thought.

I was having horrid flashbacks of that damn demon bolt when I was dealing with this thing! LOL

What's funny is that I was reading an old thread that I participated in about shift knobs, and I swore on there that I would not go with an aluminum knob again because of the heat down here in FL and how hot they can get. Well, so much for that idea. Haha

Also, some beauty shots... ;)

Off to Specialty Z for some Seb love.

Stvee 10-03-2018 02:44 PM

Just got my account approved today, so this was a few weeks ago. For my first mod, I swapped to the 2015+ nismo front bumper on my 40th Annivserary Z. I'm just not a fan of the stock bumper.

Just made my largest purchase to date for the Z...

A full-on Akebono Sport brake kit with Nissan grey calipers, slotted rotors, StopTech pads, Z1 braided lines, and Motul 5.1 fluid.

Spent the weekend upstate in the Adirondacks enjoying the foliage change and the mountain and river roads. If only the weather had cooperated.

Here's a pic up at Tupper Lake, on a gray day, just hours before we hit the mother of all raccoons that evening.

Cracked the lip on the front fascia. Haven't had a chance to lift the car and look underneath.

I put some miles on her today. We headed out to St Pete and made our first stop at Treasure Island. Hung out on the beach a couple hours just walking around and taking pics. Then hopped back in the Z and went downtown where the St Pete Pier used to be, walked around, took pics and visited some of the little shops around the area.

This took us back 5-9 years ago when we used to live in St Pete. We used to go downtown and to the beach all the time. I miss those days. Hell, I miss living in St Pete!

All in all, it was a good day. Also, note to self... Don't go walking 6 miles in flip-flops. The balls of my feet are killing me!

I wish I had discovered flare nut wrenches a long time ago. They’re freakin’ awesome.

I'm sure my friend that owns the shop here in town where we do all the work on my car has one or a full set, but just to be on the safe side, and to have my own, I ordered one. It was cheap enough so why not.

It's always a good thing to invest in tools.

My Z would not start last night when i got off work at clinic in a dark empty parking lot. The doors would unlock but the dome lights would not come on. Closed the car again, locked it and tried again. No dice. Luckily my nurse was still in his car and had jumper cables. He jump started the car on the first try and was able to drive the 30 min drive home thank God. When i got home i powered off, locked the car and unlocked it and car started. Volt gauge read 14.

This morning before going to client session, tried to start the Z and it started. Just drove it today to clinic again and car running smooth today and last night on the way home.

Do you guys think this was just a glitch since started and running fine today? All i can think off is I drove w lights on and forgot to turn them off and battery drained. Gonna go out tonight 30 mins before i leave and start the car just to make sure it starts. If not will have to call pop-a-lock to get it jump started. If it does not start will just buy a battery tomorrow as i dont know how old this one is since i bought the car in May this year. No lights ever came on on the dash to indicate battery or starter may have issue.

Thanks in advance for any comments

Ian B

Get your battery tested. It couldve been just loose battery cable, and when you had it jumped, it corrected the connection.

Got a replacement battery under warranty and cranked the Z for the first time in 6 months.

Ian B 10-14-2018 06:42 PM

Went by auto zone and had battery tested. Initially showed 12 volts and good. Tech said to let car cool down and see if battery drops charge after 30 mins sitting. Left the car there, got dinner and had it retested about 40 mins later. Tech said battery still showing 12 volts, good condition 82%. Recommended clean poles and cable and should be good to go. Got brushes and cleaned them once i got home. Car started right away. Does anyone know about optima batteries? He said they are good performance batteries and auto zone sells them.

Ian B

JARblue 10-14-2018 06:43 PM

Optima quality has decreased significantly in recent years. Don't bother.

Hotrodz 10-14-2018 07:47 PM

My last battery and the only other battery that has been in the car is a Auto Zone dry cell with a 3 year warranty.
