My friend there is always gas around when you need it, might just be in the parking spot next to you. Thats why you need to carry a hose with you. Ive gone down to the message center thing telling me 18 miles to empty

Wanton spending had me low on cash until payday (today, huzzah!) so I was milking the tank for all it was worth last night...
At around 2 dots I had 20-some miles range. Just before 1 dot the range turned into a flashing --- (not zeros as shown above). Never got to none-dots, but when I filled up it only took about 17.5 gallons So I've heard mixing different gas brands isn't the best idea and you should run it fairly low before fill up. On the other hand I imagine running out completely could be bad for the engine... any credence (Clearwater or otherwise) to that theory?

Something just occurred to me. Our fuel pumps are in the tank, right? I remember reading somewhere that the fuel pumps in the tank get hot in a dry tank without any fuel to dissipate the heat, shortening the life of the pump. Any thoughts on this? I may need to change my habit of waiting until the low-fuel light comes on.

That's exactly right. Fuel in the tank assists in cooling the pump. |

How low do you get it? If you constantly keep running on fumes you might have an issue. Aslong as fluid is in the tank and being sucked by the pump it should keep it cool. A pump doesn't know the difference if there is a full talk or quarter as long as theres enough in there to do its job. Its the same story with any related pump. If you are pumping nothing you're gonna overheat

nah it doesn't work. I haven't run completely out of gas but the gauge will say 30mi then a couple mins later it will say 25, and then out of no where it will just read "---".

Actually, I completely ran out of gas one day. I went to work and then had a final to take right after I got out. But, was running on empty already where I really needed to get gas so I told myself on the way to school I was going to fill up. Half way there I found a Chevron and right when I was across the street waiting for the light to turn green my car started choking and gave up on me. I had to run across the street and buy the damn gas tanks and put in the gas manually. I was like what's the chances of the car stopping right before you get to Chevron. I learned my lesson and never let it go past a quarter of a tank remaining. My advice bro don't let it happen !!!

Yes, you most likely don't want to run it out of gas. Most electric fuel pumps these days will reach the end of their days when run dry.

I should have asked about running out of fuel in my thread...
