If you trick the switch into thinking the pedal is depressed you can start the engine without actually physically depressing the clutch pedal. This is why he says you can't ever leave it in gear. I had this on my maxima 6mt. It had a neutral safety switch though, so if you left it in gear it wouldn't start.
