You're forgetting that these hackers cannot do this to any car (specifically the Jeep, since it's the only one that was remotely hacked) off of the lot.

They heavily modified the code, even went through 2-3 ECU's before they got it right, to do what they did. The hackers would have to swap ECU's in your vehicle first in order to take control, or plug directly into the OBDII port (and be inside your car with you).

The fear mongering by the media is strong with this story.

If you're talking about just flat out stealing it, then any car with keyless start is vulnerable, all the way up to Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.

Granted, if someone did this to my Z I would just yell out, "Make sure you total it!"

I'd probably buy something else. Not that I don't like it, but I no longer like the payment.

Yes, I don't know about hacking but those devices posted in the first page are RF amplifiers... It picks up the signal from your key fob from up to 300 meters. Like posted in the first page too, There are little RF blocking pouches you can buy that will block this signal.

I do neighborhood watch in my little town and in 1 night a thief went on a stroll and used one of these devices to get into a New Charger, Ford F150 SVT Raptor, BMW 530IT, Buick Regal GS and another car I can't remember... Over the course of a few weeks he broke in to several other cars the same way and stole 2 cars... A 2014 Mini Pooper S and a Lexus GX460 both found a few towns over without damage. Since our cars are keyless like the 2 that were stolen it can be used to start and drive the car away.

I saw the guy the night he got into the Raptor, I know it was him because I saw him a few blocks away at 2AM holding an ipad... An Ipad was stolen from the Raptor and the location tracker cloud thingy was turned off around that same time. He stopped once I posted a description of the guy and we haven't had anything happen since (he was definitely on the neighborhoods facebook page or someone recognized him from my description and told him he's been spotted).

Now, with the RF blocking pouches, you'd have to take your keys out of the pouch each time you want to get into your car, no?

Kind of defeats the purpose of keyless entry and start.

Thankfully the RF range on the Z's fob is very small, so I'd pretty much be watching them steal my car. I never take it out and press the button to lock/unlock, so that signal is never prevalent.

It may be a pain but the best would be to install an on and off switch on the key fob in order to disconnect the battery power.

Nice find. I want a monkey! My next car, I'm making sure it's in the package.
