First, the V6 with the performance package (summer tires, GT suspension) can get very close to the GT's times on certain tracks where speeds don't exceed its limiter, and the GT is faster than the 370Z on most all road courses, so I don't think it's too far fetched to think the sport version of the V6 could be quicker than a NISMO on some tracks. Plus, we all know that outright speed doesn't really matter as the Z would be in limp mode after one lap without an oil cooler .
The v6 stang can probably "hang with" a Z, and I think the drivers will determine the winner. Start modding them both, it's cheaper to turn the v6 stang into a monster than it is the Z, and top end, mod-for-mod, the v6 Stang may hold the edge. Back down to earth, for the same money as a Nismo Z, you can get a GT, which will torch a Z around a track.

Bottom line, buy what you like. The Z is still a fantastic and fast car. The Mustang is simply as fast or faster. There's no shame in that.

The correct word is rare. There are far fewer 370Zs than there are Mustangs around (~10,000 370Zs sold a year vs. ~30,000 Mustang 5.0s). There's absolutely nothing "exclusive" about a $30k car.
Rarity is nice, but it's also a sign that the Z won't be around much longer

and that's what I worry about. I know the bean counters at Nissan aren't too happy with the 370Z since they approved the project on the basis of selling 30k a year, so it makes you wonder if they are going to go ahead and invest in developing another Z or just throw in the towel. It's tough because its in a super competitive market. The $30-45k segment is tough... It's competing with Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Genesis, G37, etc.

They may keep it around as a halo car. Like Mazda keeps producing RX-8's in small numbers to keep a rotary in the lineup, Nissan may choose to keep the Z in the lineup just to say "we still make a Z car". There have been periods where GM has taken massive losses in producing the Corvette, but they kept it around because they felt the PR hit was too great if they stopped production, even for a few years.

Wasnt trying to start another hate fest, just giving props where its due. As far as the V6 mustang topend, idk. But in the reviews they have it at 5.3 / 13.8 which is what the nismo comes in at also. I hae gotten a better time but those are the consistant averages. THE NISMO IS A GREAT CAR. never regretted getting one. Fun car and if you have one you have taste, style and a certain appreciation for quality.

Been great, appreciate all the helpful tips, great site for info and sharing of information. I have no brand loyalty. I dont ever rcall any of them paying me or giving anything. Competition and choices are great you can say it makes things better.

This gen mustang is great. The last one i had was a 1990 gt that i believe had 225 hp. I boldly stuck a paxton supercharger maybe pushing 300hp???

Either way THE NISSAN Z IS A GREAT CAR but the mustang calls. For now untill tt??.
So i will

Nah man, don't do that. Look at the healthy debate that you started. Every now and then we need a good debate to bring us back to reality. Fresh perspectives are always good to spark creative and innovative thought. My boy and I will be having the Mustang GT vs NISMO Z battle once we both hit the states. I am already upgrading and I am sure he will be just behind me in that same mentality.

My only issue with the Mustang is the amount of d-bags that they attract. I am biased though.

I have a good quote from 2009:

Ain't that the truth?

So a Mustang, then a Z, then a Mustang. So what you are telling us Steve, is that you have always been a d*bag. I like an honest guy

they could also give the car more power, almost every car you mentioned has more power, even if they got it to 400hp with the wieght savings it would be right in there again.

Maybe a nice pair of electric motors at the wheels could give it more power and make it more like a hybrid to promote their green image?
