Cool, 1 less Z on the road, and 1 more of the tens of thousands of Mustangs on the road.

Now you can wave at 10-20 Mustangs a day as you pass them throughout your daily routine.

There is something to be said for exclusivity, this is why the mustang will always be a fail in my eyes.

When it comes down the Z is a more nimble car where as the stang puts it down on the straights.
Now if you are a gearhead you would choose your own poison.
Most of us on the forums will go boost hopefully.

This is a forum for everyone and just because some decide to go in another direction? Doesn't make them traitors or any less a good owner or person. I suggest that folks hold off on the name calling and such since it's only going to lead to the thread to be locked. I personally don't mind other brand owners as this is a forum for all enthusiast.

I just pulled on the 2011 camero ss hard in third and he never had a chance.. NISMO FTW...
There are a few of them rolling around Fort Hood / Killeen. I had one try to chase me down on the highway. Let's just say it was interesting to see his facial expression when I told him that i wasn't turbo'd yet when we stopped at the gas station, lol.

Boost incoming...........I can't wait to see some of these guys at the 1/4 mile strip when I get back. Hopefully, they will have opened the road course that they have been working on forever......

OP:

If Mustangs float your boat, then make the move. One of my boys is looking to get a 5.0 GT and we are usually pretty competitive. Our last rivalry was his '88 5.0 LX vs my '89 CA-powered S13. Should be fun.......

What Nismo you looking at? The 370z, Nismo or regular, is known to run 13.2-13.5 pretty consistently with even a published 13.1 for an automatic 370z. Yes, the 5.0 stang will run 12.7 to 12.9 all day but the V6 stang is a 14 sec car. I think only on the most perfect of days at the best prepped track with the best driver will you see a V6 stang dip into the 13's. The v6 stang is a respectable car for a change compared to previous 6cly mustangs, but a competitor with the 370z I think not. On the track forget it. The mustang v6 suspension is way too soft and has too much body roll. The Z, especially the Nismo, is much more capable in the turns.

Totally agree. But when people start saying stupud stuff like 117mph V6 Stangs are faster or as fast then a 370Z people get a little mad.

There is a world of difference between a 2010 Mustang GT and a 2011 Mustang GT. It's directly under the bonnet.

There is a little too much fanboyism going on on both sides here.

First, the V6 with the performance package (summer tires, GT suspension) can get very close to the GT's times on certain tracks where speeds don't exceed its limiter, and the GT is faster than the 370Z on most all road courses, so I don't think it's too far fetched to think the sport version of the V6 could be quicker than a NISMO on some tracks. Plus, we all know that outright speed doesn't really matter as the Z would be in limp mode after one lap without an oil cooler .

Second, if you think the 370Z is "exclusive" you are sadly mistaken. What are the barriers to entry that make it "exclusive?" It's a very inexpensive sports car that anyone can buy. The correct word is rare. There are far fewer 370Zs than there are Mustangs around (~10,000 370Zs sold a year vs. ~30,000 Mustang 5.0s). There's absolutely nothing "exclusive" about a $30k car.

Third, everything Trips said is correct. Instead of bashing people for their choice of vehicle, focus on being happy with yours.

The v6 stang can probably "hang with" a Z, and I think the drivers will determine the winner. Start modding them both, it's cheaper to turn the v6 stang into a monster than it is the Z, and top end, mod-for-mod, the v6 Stang may hold the edge. Back down to earth, for the same money as a Nismo Z, you can get a GT, which will torch a Z around a track.

Bottom line, buy what you like. The Z is still a fantastic and fast car. The Mustang is simply as fast or faster. There's no shame in that.

Rarity is nice, but it's also a sign that the Z won't be around much longer

and that's what I worry about. I know the bean counters at Nissan aren't too happy with the 370Z since they approved the project on the basis of selling 30k a year, so it makes you wonder if they are going to go ahead and invest in developing another Z or just throw in the towel. It's tough because its in a super competitive market. The $30-45k segment is tough... It's competing with Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Genesis, G37, etc.

They may keep it around as a halo car. Like Mazda keeps producing RX-8's in small numbers to keep a rotary in the lineup, Nissan may choose to keep the Z in the lineup just to say "we still make a Z car". There have been periods where GM has taken massive losses in producing the Corvette, but they kept it around because they felt the PR hit was too great if they stopped production, even for a few years.
