You are making the incorrect assumption that increased contact patch surface area will increase traction or grip. Friction is not dependent on surface area. A wider tire won't get you more grip.

Price out the Potenza S-04's. Currently $800 for the set at TireRack. Great tire, runs a very close second to the Pilot Super Sports for about $400 less. The S-04s have nice overlap on my Touring...

When I bought my 2014 Z, I ditched the OEM RE050A's and put on the S-04s when the car had 5 miles on it. The S-04's were quieter than the OEM, and this early spring has demonstrated far better...
