Question for OP..Is a child crossing sign (yellow diamond of parent stick figure holding child stick figures hand) in a school zone considered a "Stop Sign" during non school hours? The reason I ask is because a while back I was driving in the community my mom lives in on a weekend. A cop pulled me over for what was written as a "rolling stop through a stop sign". So I asked the cop which stop sign it was and he told me the one on the corner of Menta Street which is where the child crossing sign is. I didnt argue but was kind of confused as to him saying it was a stop sign. I thought of it as a yield sign which is why i came to a slow creep of about 5mph and made the right turn instead of a complete stop. it was a $140 ticket with no points and no course needed. I ended up taking pics of the sign later that day because I really wanted to show up to court to fight it but didnt want to face extra court fees if for some reason it was truly considered a stop sign.

Yellow (warning) signs should just be cautionary, i.e. not requiring any specific action. However, if you see someone approaching or perhaps crossing the road, you of course need to stop. The sign is supposed to just draw your attention to the crossing area so you can be more cautious. I believe you are expected to drive slowly in a way that you can be prepared to stop should you need to. Signs don't typically have double meaning unless explained clearly on the sign, such as "When flashing," or time of day. |
