Nice 1911!!

I went and took my CWP class today for a SC carry license. Scored 98 on the written part and 100 on the shooting part. I was kinda surprised at the latter because I haven't shot my pistol in, sad to say it, probably 6 months. I've been so busy with work and photography I haven't had time. My grouping was all over the place but it was all on target :)

(I used my XDm .40 3.8" for the class)

Nice. I've got a Kimber Ultra Carry II that I sometimes carry. Recoil is manageable with the self-defense loads that Hornady puts out. I wouldn't recommend shooting 230 gr FMJ's out of it. :ugh2:

Then what is the point of having a .45 ACP. Just my :twocents: :D

I shoot 230gr FMJs out of my Springfield XDS. :stirthepot:

There is only one load I use that is less than 230gr.
Hornady's 220gr Critical Duty. :rolleyes:

I've got a Springfield Armory Lightweight Champion Operator which has an aluminum frame and recoil is very manageable. This isn't mine but gives you an idea of what it looks like.

Almost exactly how I scored all those years ago. I'd rather be proficient in hitting the target that getting the right answer on a multiple choice question test.

That Springfield looks a lot like my cousin's Sig P249 that she carries. Very nice carry gun.

I like it so far. I've shot just over 300 rounds through it. It's almost broken in. I am finding the take-up in DA is too long. I'm going to try and shorten it. Other than that, beside my aim, it's a really fun shooter! I would recommend one.

Same here. All of my semi-autos are 45s except one that is a 10mm. Been thinking about getting a H&K P30L V1 (factory light LEM trigger) in 9mm to complement my HK45s.

Yeah, ammo is ridiculous north of the border. 9 is available and relatively cheap. My latest batch of 9 that I bought works out to just under 33 cents a round. Although prices don't really bother me, it's the availability that concerns me. Rimfire ammo is getting very scarce up here. With national chain stores posting signs that say "All .22LR is sold out" for months now. I spoke with a store owner today. Everything will be getting very scarce in the coming months.

I don't know what the bullet weight on the Hornady's are, I'm not overly concerned. I shot some Mil Ball out of it once and while the recoil wasn't really that bad, after 100 rounds, the palms stung a bit. My primary carry gun is a 9 because I can put more rounds on target in a shorter amount of time than I can with a .45. I attended a class put on by Ron Pinkus (sp?) and discovered that interesting fact. It seems recoil management is the key, but that's just my :twocents:

Important thing is what you are comfortable with... :)

Hornady low recoil 45s are 185gr which usually is the weight of low recoil 45 rounds in general.

I can shoot 230gr 45 all day comfortably, but that just me. :rolleyes: Got big hands. :icon17:
For my purposes I rather have a 45 for defensive shooting and a 9 for offensive shooting (i.e. go to war, WROL, SHTF, etc.). Just my :twocents:

I definitely agree with you on shooting what you are comfortable with. No point in having a defensive firearm (hand gun, shotgun, or rifle) that you hate to shoot. That's why I gave my Kimber Tactical Ultra II to my dad and now have a Springfield XDS (in 45) which I like a lot. If you like to shoot your defensive firearm you'll shoot it more. There is no substitution for practice/training. :tup:

^ Nice, my next hand gun for sure. For me it's gotta be a M2 as well. Im not a fan of the European mag release on the first gens.

Couldn't agree with you more. Having slightly larger hands made comfortability a BIG deciding factor in my purchase AND the new mag release position feels VERY natural to me (mostly 1911 shooting and shotgun background personally).

Excellent firearm. Only pistol I've ever liked or respected enough to own more than one copy of.

Well today was my wife's birthday and I gave her the new Smith and Wesson Governor she had been asking for. I also got her the new stethoscope for her job (shes a doctor). She was super excited and then went wait, when my friends at work ask me what you got me.....this might be strange for a girl to get! haha She is so ready to go shoot it at the range!

I just bought a Remington 700P in .308 Winchester/7.62X51 for some long range precision work. That was the easy part....now the optics.

No kidding, too many excellent optic choices out there.
It boils down to what features you want.
AND how much you are willing to spend. :tup:

As it stands right now my future precision .308 bolt gun would get an U.S Optics LR-17 (3.2-17x FFP reticle) with a Mil Scale GAP reticle. My bolt gun build is a little ways off so it really depends on what is available at the time of my build.

Which version of the 700P did you get?

I'm leaning towards the Savage Model 10 Precision Carbine for my build. Especially after I found 3 companies that make 10 round mags for it. (No aftermarket/special bottom metal needed!)

Just ordered a Nightforce 5.5-22 X 56 scope. Now to just find the direct fit mount, and I'm almost done. Also have a competition Mpod on its way for a front F class rest.

MOAR reticle! Price...... too much! Remember, I live in Canada. Land of the free and grossly over taxed.

And yes, pics will follow. It will be a while until I'm done the initial build. The tune will follow that. I'm really not sure if I will shoot it before winter. I might finish the initial build, but I probably won't get to shoot it until spring.

Those scopes are pricy as it is.

The VP9 is an excellent pistol. I like mine a little better than my Walther PPQ. Both are vastly superior to any other polymer striker-fired handgun I've ever shot, although in fairness I'd add that I have no experience with the Sig P320.

Nice. I have a couple of those Taylor +5's on order. Did your VP 9 come that way, or have you been "working on it?" I haven't seen one equipped that way out of the box.
