Anyone here into firearms?

You ever go to walmart? Them there are some scary people. Even the workers! I've had a CCP since I was 21. 60 as of today. That's a long time

I've had a CCP since I was 21. 60 as of today. That's a long time to carry. I've had to pull it out, but never squeezed the trigger. Hopefully, I never have too.

Growing up in a college town in the 70's shaped my thinking on guns. College kids are stupid on some of the things they did. They liked to pick on the townies (locals). Sometimes just showing the butt of a gun under your jacket was enough from getting your asss kicked.

I've had 3 jobs that required to carry. DoD, armored car, and working for a private diick. That was the most FUN I've ever had on a job. Have 2 Certs for the state of Pa. Act 120, and Act 235.

The old saying, "I would rather be tried by 12, then be carried by 6."

True ... when given as murders/100k/year, it's not out of line with the rest of the world. But the sheer number made an impression on this country boy.

2001-2013 statistics for reference:
We get from 1-3 (4.6-14.9/100k) murders per year. Five (23.9/100k) in 2005, for some reason.
For the same period in Houston: 198 (9.2) to 377 (18.2).

Crime in El Dorado, Arkansas (AR): murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts, auto thefts, arson, law enforcement employees, police officers, crime map
Crime in Houston, Texas (TX): murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts, auto thefts, arson, law enforcement employees, police officers, crime map

I just noticed I accidentally swapped out my +P ammo for a standard load.

I'm not sure what I think about that. I'm not sure I'd rather carry standard over a +P load. Thoughts?

For carry purposes, I'd go with the +P if the gun will handle it. I doubt you will notice the extra recoil in an emergency and that little added oomph could come in handy.

But I don't usually carry, so take that with a grain of salt.

Most of the folks I train with are all about recoil management. If you and your gun can handle the +P, then go for it. A quick way to test is to load a magazine with each type. Use a silhouette target and use a stop watch to record how long it takes you to empty the mag into the 5 ring (center mass) on the target. It's better to do this outdoors, as most indoor ranges won't allow you to draw from a holster and engage a target. If it takes longer to put the +P on target, then you have your answer. Hope this helps.

My weapon handles +P recoil very well. I hardly notice the difference tbo.

I switched from a .45 to a .357 SIG as my carry cannon. The primary reason was recoil management. I shoot the .45 real well, but sometimes it's a struggle to put rounds on target in 'high adrenaline' situations. The 1911 only holds 8 rounds, while the SIG has 15, so another advantage to the SIG. Yes I know there are double stack .45s out there, but I'm not a fan of Glock, primarily because of the trigger, my finger tends to get pinched when I shoot one.

Indeed. I was looking at a Glock in .45, but the full size one is too big to be comfortable my hand and the sub compact I felt was too small for such a round. The 9mm compact 19 was just right.

It's all about hitting the target. IMO if you can shoot the standard better than the +P then carry the standard. The +P only makes a difference if you hit the target properly.

It’s all about what works for you. Too many people get wrapped up in such and such uses this gun/round/technique, the forum say get this or do this, x brand is the only brand worth buying (cough, cough Glock fanboys ), this technique is the only one you should be using etc. Use and do what works well, the best for you. I have my opinions on calibers/guns/techniques/POUs and so does every one else but they are just my/their opinions so take them as such. I have found that some of the main stream/popular techniques just don’t work for me and/or just don’t make enough sense to me to use. Be open to new techniques and products but always go with what works for you. No point in using the latest and greatest if you can’t hit the target.

Amen. I trained with Col. Jeff Cooper at Gunsite a lifetime ago, and then it was '.45 or nothing'. I tried PPC & IPSC and realized I needed more training, I couldn't shoot for crap with someone standing over my shoulder. The one thing I know for sure, you gotta keep training. It's just like physical fitness, the mental fitness and coordination of mind/body to put rounds on target when you need to, is a never-ending process.

I'm with ya. I rented several pistols from a variety of manufactures and the G19 felt like a natural extension for my hand. The best weapon is one that's proven reliable (I like Glock but there are many just as reliable) that you personally can use like a mo fo.

I'm not a Glock guy but IMO the G19 the best size of the Glock 9mm's. Even the SEALs think so too. If you didn't know the SEALs replaced the SIG P229 with the G19.

Well I bent the truth a little. I'm a little bit of a Glock guy.
I have a G20. 10mm

I've actually been toying with getting a 10mm for entertainment purposes.
