There's probably going to be some haters on this (my wife is one of them), but I had an extra shotgun lying around, so I started to playing with ideas to make it a little more unique...
Ended up turning it into a bullpup. Took about 10 inches off of the total length. http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...psont7e9cw.jpg Here's a quick 'photochop' of the before and after from some stock photography any my phone camera for comparison. http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...psnvrkvmcs.jpg |
To the guys running the under steering colum holster where did you find it or what holster did you find that was usable? Don't like keeping it between my knees or in the door panel, it just doesn't give the retention I like. In my XTerra it sat perfect between the ebrake and center console there isn't a natural spot like that on the Z. Also with a full frame 1911 just leaving it in my holster isn't a comfortable option while driving.

Now this is a good way to start the year! FINALLY got my G36 back from the armorer. It was there for the final step of the conversion from a standard HK SL8 rifle. I did all the little stuff myself, but didn't feel comfortable when it came to the cutting and welding. Fantastic work by Tommy-Built Tactical.
I have all 3 barrel lengths for it, but I've currently got the C length (the shortest) on it. (And yes, all NFA paperwork has been completed long ago, so she's completely legal :) http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...psifbsirxs.jpg http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...psknyogaws.jpg http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...psxwus0blf.jpg |
Nice!
I want a HK MP5-10. That's a 9mm MP5 converted to a 10mm. The FBI have used it in the past. |

If you don't mind the wait time, Dakota Tactical makes one of the best MP5s in the world, second only to the original... but not by much. I used to have one of their standard MP5s. Beautiful piece. |

General question... Concerning defensive carry ammo, how often do y'all buy fresh rounds?
|
Anyone here into firearms?

I shoot the carry mag load every 3 months or so and cycle in new ammo. That also serves to test it in your firearm and you can feel confident that it is going to shoot that ammo reliably. Never a bad idea when your life is on the line. |

Put finger nail polish around the primer and case mouth to help preserve the round. ;) I do this with my hunting rounds if I know the weather will be bad.
|
To past my time while I heal up from foot surgery. I started to read a book called "Applied Ballistics For Long Range Shooting" by Bryan Litz. It's deep in tech. A lot of science.

Looks like the old CCI Blazer rounds. Which I used to use in my MAC10 45ACP. Haven't seen them around for awhile. You can't reload it because the case has 2 flash holes for the primer. It's a Berdan primer.

As per Rusty, they can't be reloaded. |

Totally agree in terms of shelf life. As in, sitting on a shelf. In regards to carry ammo, specifically, you do need to cycle it through and keep it fresh. Problem comes in when you constantly carry. Powder essentially breaks up into smaller pieces from the constant motion. It will change the ballistics of the round and increase chamber pressure exponentially as the powder will burn at a much higher rate. You also run the risk of partially burnt powder and may get a bullet lodged in the bore. These are all fairly unlikely scenarios but they must be considered as it has previously occurred. I suppose you really only have to worry about this if the case isn't completely filled and there is room for the powder to move. So it would vary from load to load. I imagine most P+P rounds would never have this issue. Any standard, non-+P round will likely steer toward the need to cycle. But I'm OCD. I only stated what I do with my ammo. You could easily go several years with the same carry ammo. But for myself? Eh, life is more important than an extra $50 for a new box of ammo. |
What gets to be more of a problem then round rotation is actual magazine maintenance. Mags need to be cleaned and oiled just like the rest of the fire arm and springs allowed to relax. Rotating ammo normally reminds people to do this.

My Pmags and Lancer AR-15 mags don't need to be lubed and unless they get really dirty, like if I dropped one in mud or sand, don't really need to be cleaned. If they do get really dirty I just take them apart and wipe them down with a clean dry rag with out any solvent or oil. My HK pistol mags (with one exception) are the same way. Like cleaning and lubing, mags spring maintenance varies depending on the mag. Some mags need to be exercised, unloaded, and/or rotated and some mags don't. This varies a lot even with the same gun. Depending on the manufacture some AR-15 mags need to unloaded and rotated while other don't. I usually rotate my AR-15 mags just because. Now my HK USP 45 10 round brady bill mags (that one exception) springs can only stay loaded a month or two before encountering slide lock back issues. Also they need regular cleaning and light lubing to ensure the slide locks back on the last round. When the brady bill ended and I was able to get the 12 round USP 45 mags all those issue went away. I can run those mags dirty and leave them loaded for very long periods of time. One time I was out of country for over a year and had accidentally left some of my UPS 45 12 round mags and HK45 mags fully loaded. When I got back and realized that had happened I thought I had messed up my mags. I didn't unload them instead I took them to the range still fully loaded and tested them. To my surprise they all worked flawlessly and I have never had an issue with them. It really boils down to you knowing what your firearm needs and doesn't need when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. |
Speaking of mags, Nuntfancy recently posted a vid on AR-15 mag reliability.
No ground breaking info but I still found it interesting. |
Did some modifying to the 870. New magpul furniture and a low profile mag clamp with a rail for my tac light (tlr-1 hl).

I want to try trap shooting this year. I wonder how this 870 will do. Hahaha.
I met an ffl on my delivery route last night. Got to talking and he invites me into his house and shows me his gun room. Very cool guy. Picked up a spas-12 off his shelf and handed it to me. Good lord that gun is cool. |

Been aloooong time since I last seen a SPAS-12. Been almost as long since I heard talk of one. They quit importing them in '94. The new version is SPAS-15. Only about 180 of them was imported. Had an 8 round box mag. If you can find a SPAS-12. They're going for about $3000.00
|
A spas-12 is on my firearm bucket list. They're just too cool.
|
I think I saw a few spas-12 on gunbroker. It looked like an elephant on his rack next to all his other rifles.
