Bought one of these too. This helps speed up the process of sorting through bullets.

been rocking an alien wear IWB. Absolutely love it, just need to add to my full frame 1911 for some thing smaller before the summer rolls around next year.

I was using an IWB for my 9mm shield. I just couldn't get used to it. Ended up getting another S&W in .380 and just throw it in my pocket with a sleeve holster. My clothing doesn't seem to conceal well. So the pocket was perfect
|
I started doing that with my Glock 19. Works fine and is way more comfy than IWB.

I use a strong-side holster with trigger latch for my P229. Light jacket over everything, no problem. ;) |
I have an aliengear iwb for my shield 9. It's comfortable.
Just picked up some truglo tfx sights for the shield and the m&p9. I can't wait to get them on. There glowing in the package and it's driving me nuts. |
Been thinking about an Aliengear iwb. Read and heard nice things about them. Just don't know. Have to see one in person first.

I have tried a few but for my H&K P2000 SK I like the Galco Matrix OWB holster. It is a minimalist holster, but it holds the firearm very securely. It just takes a longish t-shirt to conceal.
|
Rusty the alien wear feels and looks just like my crossbreed did, just a lot cheaper price wise, and I feel like it breaths a little better. I also like the fact that they will send you a new clam shell if you get a new gun free of charge, while my crossbreed became useless to me when I traded the gun away so some one got a $100 holster for free. The only down fall I've seen so far is the wait time from purchase until shipped.
|
My aliengear took about 2 weeks to be shipped. I have the cloak 3.0. I was surprised. They said turn around time was 4-5 weeks.
|
I will admit to in a hurry just grabbing my wife XDS in a sticky holster and sliding it into the back of my pants. Actually works awesome.

.45 vs 9mm
9mm wins

Honestly with all the advancements in ammunition it comes down to what you are comfortable with shooting and find a frame that fits your hands, and body if carrying. If you look at the gels of rounds from .380 to .45 that are designed for extreme trauma they all have the power to stop the bad guy. But if you choose to run around with a .45 because some one told you it's the best, but only have the strength to shoot a .380 you aren't going to hit the bad guy and that big round is useless. Just my 2 pennies.

Self Defense Ammo
Hey gun packin' friends. What is your daily carry ammo of choice?
I generally use Hornady Critical Duty +p 135 gr. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10...ccc6592f2a.jpg |

Same for me that's a good round. I either carry those or my own hornady reloads
|
Any hollow point. I usually shoot them into a pool to see how they fragment (I'm dead serious)
|
For home defense, I use hollow points. If I were going to carry in public, I'd probably go with something frangible.
|
The first 3 rounds, Glaser Safety Slugs. The rest of the mag is Critical Defense.

i finally got out to shoot the new powder for my Hornady 75gr's. If you remember I was using a powder not recommended but Accurate or Hornady but one that others had tried with 69gr's and i was only getting around 2460ftps with a very compressed load deforming my tips.
I found out RL 15 would work ok. So I loaded up low, medium and high charges per Hornadys 5.56 manual. But my speeds are way way under what they say. The max at 24.9gr should be 2850ftps. I'm only getting 2642ftps. I take it they don't use a 16" barrel then for the manuals and use a 20". I tested my 16" vs 10" and averaged 310ftps slower or 51ftps per inch. So 2642+204=2846 or almost dead on for 24.9gr per Hornady, way to go manual! Anyways I started loading more powder to see if I could get more speed and watch for signs of over pressure. Was that bad? I got up to 25.5gr and again started to compress the load and deforme the tip a little Speeds got up to 2710 and the cases looked good after being shot but pretty flat primers though but no damage or hurt cases. I ran out of brass but shot 4 rounds at 25.5gr. First cold barrel shot was 3-4" left from shots 2 and 3 which were sub MOA on top of each other. Shot 4 was again 3" away but right of 2 and 3. After writing all this I'm answering my own question probably by saying the charges were to hot and probably wild and the deformed tip probably wasn't helping. Shots 2 and 3 might of just had more room in the case or less deforming making them good at 25.5gr and 2700ftps. So maybe I'll just stick with 24.9gr at 2642ftps with the 75gr bullet and redo the accuracy testing. FYI every 0.4-0.5gr averaged about 60ftps for all the loads I tried out. |

Are you using a chronograph? If so, which one? I never get what the manual says for velocity. When you deform the tip of the bullet. Kiss your accuracy good by. When you try for more velocity. And are starting to see over pressure signs. You will see the flatten primers. But what you don't see is inside the case. Look for a bright ring around the outside of the case, just above the case groove. If you see that. Your case is about to separate there. Also your case will grow in length. So keep an eye on case length. Watch for splits in the necks too. Because as the case grows in length. The neck will get thick, and work hardened. |

Between my wife shooting alot, and my daughter picking up a 9mm. I had to cast more 125gr RN 9mm with gas check bullets. I did 2, 3 lbs coffee cans. That's about 4,000 per can. Hopefully I'm set for awhile.
1st pic. One of the coffee cans. 2nd pic. Filing the base. Sometimes there is part of the spruce that needs filed down for a flat base. 3rd pic. Finished base. 4th pic. 50 of them ready for gas checks, sizing, and lube. 5th. Checking the hardness of the bullet. They are a little softer then what I like. Not enough tin in the mix. But I don't have any to begin with. |
