It is a safety issue. Belts keep you relatively stable and stationary during the crash. Your chest doesn't hit the steering column as often, you are less likely to be ejected from the vehicle, less likely to bang around inside the cabin of the car in the case of hard contact.

I don't know how much of this can be mitigated with modern airbag systems, but I do know that you are safer with a belt on than not.

Always, I can't even back up without it on. I fly commercially for a living and it creeps me out to not be well connected to the seat when operating a vehicle.

I always where my seat belt. I might leave it off only if I'm not leaving my parking lot, but even then I usually put it on. Better safe than sorry.

i always wear mine. doesn't feel right without it, too much movement.

i have a friend who never wears his, and drives around with the damn car beeping at him since it's not buckled. makes me real uncomfortable to be a passenger when he's driving.

I wear mine 99% of the time unless I am driving my truck up to the corner liqour store from the office after work (2 blocks on sidestreets) I will ALWAYS wear it if actually driving no matter how short the drive.
