I unknowingly led a Highway Patrol officer on a high speed chase for 10 miles. The report straight up says that the only reason he ever caught me was because I slowed down to 75 when I finally came to a point where I wasn't the only car around. It says something along the lines of "Maintaining speeds of over 140 MPH, I was not able to close the gap between myself and the suspect". Once I got to a point where I was coming up to traffic, I slowed down.

He finally caught up to me, and hit the lights. He asked me to get out of the car, and I thought I was going to jail for sure... He asks if I've ever been pulled over, and I told him yes. I had 1 criminal speeding ticket (20 MPH over). I rarely drove this car, so I didn't have my proof of insurance with me, and the registration was expired by like 4 days. He runs my ID, and gives me a reckless driving ticket. He said that he could have done either a criminal speeding or reckless driving, but going back in front of a judge for the same exact thing looks pretty bad, so he gave me the reckless driving. No tickets for the insurance or registration. He technically should have taken me to jail, but he didn't. I haven't had a ticket in 5ish years.

Oh, and it was a Civic.

Great stories Elmz & Vivid. I lucked out with the timing of Irene I hate that feeling when you realize that things can get really ugly and that everything depends on that officer right in front of you staring with the mustache, 80s glasses and huge hat. I'm sure they must get a kick out of watching people sweat.

Oh I'm sure they do. I've sense grown up and don't drive like an idiot anymore, so I won't be in that situation again. Even when I used to drive fast on the street, I always made sure there wasn't anyone else around.

Dang you guys all got lucky, I however was less fortunate. I got pulled over in the fast lane going with the speed of traffic (which was apperently like 78mph) in a 65. He was just chillin on the shoulder and i didnt even see him until it was too late. He pointed at me and then got in his car..... Oh S**t! so any ways I pull off the crowded highway and come to a stop. He walks up and says "license and registration (or proof of insurance, whatever)"... No please in there, and then goes back to his car. After probably 20 minutes no joke he walks back up and says "I'm officer ______ from ______ county, sign here the instructions are on the back"; and then walks to his car. WHAT!!!!! Here I am not even knowing what he pulled me over for and he doesn't tell me anything but "the instructions are on the back" So anyways he ended up giving me the ticket for 13 over. And apparently the max limit before higher fines is 15mph over. Meanwhile you guys are doin 100+ and getting away with it lol. Please teach me!

D*mn dude, sorry to hear about your mishap - the cop had to have a bad day, it's funny that he pointed at you before getting in the car. Don't worry, before most of us learned how to work our way out of tickets, we had a rough patch learning. What I've found out from most of my warnings is that you should always be polite, if you are playing music, turn that sh&t down, stop the car, put the keys on top of the car, be comfortable, if you have some to hide, your body language will reveal it, let the officer know that you are going to reach for your wallet, you don't want to get shot , if you were speeding no need going around it admit it and having a natural sense of humor helps. I've heard of one guy who told the cop that he only stopped because he didn't want to risk the officer's life - the cop was floored (the guy in question was doing over 140mph and got a warning)

I actually got pulled over the day after I got my Z ( a lil too trigger happy with the foot as it was a new toy) and the cop pulled me over on a two lane road, He asked for my license and registration and just as he did a honda prelude went jetting by at like wat seemed like over 60 (speed limit is 35 on that road) so he told me "wait here till i get backk, ill be right back", and ran back to his cruiser and sped off towards the prelude. I simply just waited for like 5 min and he didnt return so I just slowly merged into traffic and bounced.

My story is getting pulled over for being clocked at 116 in my old civic. The officer asked where in the world was I going at that speed. I was all leaned up and had my resume in my passenger seat. Truthfully told him I was heading to a job interview and was running late. Gave me the ticket and said see you in court.

I hope that #1 you later caught up with that Honda and gave him a beer for saving your a$$ #2 that you left a really long peel out since you were a little too trigger happy.

Hahaha you had the gangster lean Matt. At least he knew you were going to contest the ticket in court and didn't give you a long lecture

nope no peel out I didnt want to push my already good fortune, and as for the prelude i knew if i found him i would most likely find the cop that pulled me over and that would be just asking for a ticket, so i kindly took my behind home.

Final tally, repair order for front tint, get front plate installed ... saving close to 1k worth of fines. This had to be without any doubt the nicest officer I've dealt with, ever. Do you care sharing any instance when you somehow got away from an imminent ticket/fine and pulled it off? Please fine gents & ladies, do so with respect of law and enforcement
How fast were you going!? A tint ticket where I live is = to about 15 over in cost.

My best story?

I was tail-gating someone. I then whipped in front of this old guy in a dark-blue crown vic as soon as I could, and floored it. I stopped and cruised at 20 over when I noticed the old guy up on my ***. I gave it a bit more gas. Then his whole car lit up. Undercover. FAIL.

So I am thinking OSHIT! and slam on the brakes. He almost rear-ends me as those crown-vics don't stop so fast. OSHIT again.

I finally pull over on the side of the road and tally up my sins. Tail-gating. 20+ over. Cutting the officer off. Brake-checking the officer. Maybe even "reckless" driving.

He gets out and yells for me to do the same. Then to get against the retaining wall. I refuse by not moving from my place behind the car. He tells me to step back from traffic. I do. He asks for DL. I go back to the car to get it. I present it to him. He asks me WTF!? I tell him the truth. I'm late for class, my roommate picked TODAY to take a 30 minute shower in our ONE bathroom, and if I don't get to class, it can cost us a letter-grade. He asked where I went to school and supplied a "is it *** institution?" I said "No, it's ****". A few seconds later I realized he suggested an institution in the opposite direction I was headed and was glad I was just being honest or he might have got me.

He smiled, handed me my DL, and said "I know how it is to be late. Don't kill yourself." and walked back to his cruiser. I got the hell out of there and slid into my seat 30 seconds before my name was called on the roster.

_____________

I have also had an officer lie about how fast I was going (over 30 over, he called it 29, and I know he was BS'ing). He also ignored my lack of current inspection sticker, and the hot blonde in the BMW 335i very close behind me when I was radar'ed.

I did not argue with him over the 29 over. It cost me a driving class and $165.

_____________

Another time, I was driving through Texas headed up from McAllen toward Houston on 77 I believe it was. Some POS escort BLEW by me. I was curious how fast it was going, so I caught up to it and was about 3 cars back in the other lane from it. We crested a hill and that's when the TX State Trooper saw us.

I was doing 110mph last I looked down.

He slid across the grassy median as my colon struggled not to betray the trust of my boxers.

I stood on the brakes and the Escort, with it's junk brakes or oblivious attitude kept on going. The officer managed to get up to speed/turned around after the escort right about the time I was pulling even with him at 55mph (speed-limit was 70). I saw him reach over in his passenger seat and put on his Smokey hat. I then, out of the corner of my watering eyes, saw him glare at me. Hatred. Raw, angry hatred. I kept eyes front and center, and he shot off after the Escort. I saw him pull him over. As soon as I got to the next overpass (the land there is FLAT!) that went over a street (about 1/3 mile from where he pulled the escort over), I just FLOORED it. I did NOT want to be a double-stop.

I never saw hide or hair of him again, and I will always wonder why the person in the Escort was doing 110, how that car got up to 110, and what happened to them.

Wow importconvert, I love your first story and the Escort one ; I just can't believe how that officer let you walk away, that's just surreal. Thanks for sharing that story, you've had quite a few bumps with the police that ended up well for the most part

Keep'em stories coming, definitely a lot of fun realizing that many officers out there are really not out to get you and will definitely listen to you if you have a valid reason for being pulled out

Bill has a story about being picked out from the middle of a whole line of Z's...

something about how motorcycle had a head on with a crown vic - and how you hit trees when you try to miss Bambi - and how these sports cars are typical culprits...

now get outta here and slow down...
