Grandfather is a retired nuc engineer. Before all the red tape and OSHA and "maybe you need a silver suit for this." We figure the radiation made him stronger; he fell off the Grand Teton, broke six bones, and hiked down to the local ER for treatment..

Nuke is the way to go. It's the cheapest per MW produced and the cleanest. Only 3 problems with it.

1. Cost and time to get the permits. 2 to 4 billions dollars and 15 years.

2. Cost 20 billion, and time to build a nuke. 15 to 20 yrs and more than one company to share the cost.

3. What do you do with the waste. Yucca Mountain is the perfect place. But you have "Not in my backyard" people. Then you have to transport it. People are scare chitless over that.

Had to do an airport run tonight and along the way is a solar farm, all of the panels were covered with snow for as far as the eye could see and that was before tonight’s storm had even started

The problem with solar. The sun has to shine in it. If 1/8 of the panel is covered. You lose 50% of the output of that panel. If 50% is covered. You get maybe get 10 to 15% output. Leaves, snow, dust, bird chit, or anything else blown on to the panel will cause problems. Renewable power depends on nature. Nature is not dependable. Wind turbines operate within a narrow range of wind speeds. Something like 6 to 23 mph. Too slow. Won't make enough power. Too much speed, and they come apart. If you do the math. At around 25 mph. The tip speed of a 90ft long blade is close to the speed of sound. In high winds. They lock the blades to keep from spinning, and turn them to neutral position.

Renewable power also get tax subsidies. They operate at a lose. The subsidies make up the difference. If you eliminate the subsidies. They would all go under within a month. Their cost of MegaWatt is just to high compared to natural gas.

Good Freezing Tuesday Morning All. 7* this morning with a high today of just 27* with a 20% chance of wintry mix. So once again stay warm campers. Stay Safe, Stay Positive and Keep Washing Those Hands.

One of my brothers is a Nuclear Engineer, confirms all you've stated. He said the biggest barrier is overcoming residual fear that people have over another "3 Mile Island" or similar. Most legislation that now makes it so time consuming and expensive came about as a result of fear, as opposed to logic, but I guess that applies to most legislation for everything, not just nuclear.

I'z up.

I got to stop staying up late when I'm working.

It rained until about 2am here. Temp is 31F with a high of 34F. It's going to drop to 12F tonight. Brrr.

Looking outside. Everything has a coat of ice on it.
