Are you going wide body? I wish I had the space for a project like that.

I am widening the body, yes. Those 165/80 15's aren't going to cut it. It's also going to be a full-time roadster. Think this.

How are they getting the displacement? My 1969 VW Beetle has a 2176cc engine. I would not recommend going over 90.5mm piston size. It is something I dumped a ton of money in back in the early 90's. It looks like hell now. I need to redo it again for the 3rd time. I got out of the Air Force and went back to school. Priorities changed. Good luck with your Karmen Ghia build.

They got some wild stuff for those motors now. I used to hang out at JR BugStuff when I was in high school. I think Jack is still in business. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bugstuff/161305630557487 The biggest motor then was 2,000cc with a roller crank with twin Webers.

What I can remember on rebuilding VW motors was that they don't like Quaker State oil. They would sludge up so bad the oil wouldn't flow back into the crank case from the heads. The push rod tubes would be packed up with sludge.

I can remember one guy driving in and asking for a tune up. Pulled the plugs out and they was covered in oil, plus one had a smashed electrode. Hmmmmm did a compression test. One cylinder had zero compression. Removed the valve cover. Packed full of sludge. Turned the motor over by hand. The the rockers for the valves on the zero cylinder barely moved. Hmmmm removed the rockers and the push rods wouldn't come out. Hmmmmm finally got them out and they was bent. Hmmmmmm Removed the head and had 2 pistons at TDC. Hmmmmmmmmm Rebuild time. This was the first time I seen a piston break at the oil ring land. The top of the piston was at TDC and the rest of the piston shirt was still moving in the cylinder like nothing happened.

The air cooled motors liked Castrol oil. No sludge.
