There’s just no room to grow at my current job since the new guy is now the service manager and my brother is the assistant manager. I’m just not happy being able to not do anything more. I want to improve but there’s nowhere I can go here. Sorry if I was repetitive.

Anywho, spent my tax refund on a new stereo set up for the house. Lolol

they dont provide tools?

dude the local big merc dealer here was just on the radio looking for techs for a new location offering like 65k, tools provided, and training if needed in certain areas.

I’m sure they provide the specialty tools, but just general stuff nah. I’d imagine I’d need a legit scanner and what not.

Hendrick Chevrolet (and associated other ones) provide their techs with everything needed; hand tools, specialty tools, tool chest, the whole 9 yards. They want their folks focused on fixing cars, not worrying about paying for tools and cutting corners to make a buck. I'm not sure I believe that, I wouldn't trust a stealership as far as I could throw 'em..

I heard that ad too. Sign on bonus too. If they are full tool boxes. That about $50,000~$70,000 in tools per parts changer.

The job there must really suck if theyre willing to invest that much for an entry level position.

Not around here. You buy your own tools and work on part hr. for pay. If your wrenches aren't turning you are not making any money. So, if a job pays 4 hrs and you do it in 2hrs. Better for you. If a motor swap pays 15hrs and you do it in 20hrs. You get paid for 15hrs. If you are sitting around doing nothing due to it being Christmas, etc. You make nothing.

Working flat rate sucks big time. One job and you can lose your azz for the week.

Goodyear paid me $6.50 hr plus commission. My commission was always over $1,500 a week. This was back in 83 to 88. Chevy dealer was flat fuvking rate. Never made anything close to what I made at Goodyear.

That is why I hung up my tools. I had enough.
